ASHLAND, KY (May 30, 2013) – Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series driver, Steve Francis of Ashland, KY participated in the 21st Annual Show-Me 100 this past weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO.
Steve and the Clint Bowyer Racing Team/Georgia Boot sponsored Barry Wright Race Cars #15 started off the weekend by dominating his heat race on Friday Night to earn the sixth starting spot in Saturday Night’s $30,000 to win main event which was filmed and will be on five television networks in the near future.
In Saturday Night’s finale Steve would run as high as third as he and 2-time series champion, Scott Bloomquist would duel for many laps in an excellent battle for third. Steve would try several times to get by Bloomquist, but never could clear him. After several restarts for caution flags Steve would eventually get shuffled back to the sixth position and that is where he finished.
“I know we had a car that was capable of winning the race, I know they had us on the stopwatch as being the fastest car several times during the race, the cautions hurt us there at the end, if we could have just cleared Scott (Bloomquist), we might have had a good shot at Jimmy (Owens, the eventual winner), said the veteran driver, who remains fourth in the LOLMDS Championship Points Standings.
This weekend Steve and the Georgia Boot/Clint Bowyer Racing team head to Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN on Friday Night, May 31st for the Toyota Knoxville 50. Then on Saturday Night, the team heads up I-75 to Florence Speedway in Union, KY for the 27th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial, an event Steve won back in 1997 and 2002. Both events will pay $10,000 to win.
