Quad City SpeedwayAn overcast sky and cool temperatures didn’t stop nearly 100 cars from checking in Sunday at the Quad City Speedway. Six classes took to the ¼ mile with excitement in every feature.

The first feature of the night was the, 19 car, U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds. Maquoketa’s Ray Cox Jr. took over the lead on lap 3 and would lead the rest of the way until the final turn on the final lap when Greg Durbin squeaked by Cox to take the checkered flag. Heat race winners were Eric Barnes, Todd Dykema, and Leland Bushong.

The UMP Modifieds took to the track next with pole sitter Donovan Lodge holding off Milo Veloz Jr. and 17 other cars to win the 20 lap feature. Matt Werner finished third followed by Ray Bollinger and Jeff Larson. Peoria’s Erik Bruce set fast time in the Mr. Fix It Time Trials with the heat race wins going to Bruce, M. Veloz, and Charley Hess.

With a new motor under the hood Steven Jackson held off a fierce charge from Jeremy Gustaf, even exchanging the lead a few times, and 20 other cars to pick up the feature win in the Weber Auto Group Street Stocks.  Third went to Chad Coyne with Jarett Franzen and Rick Schriner completing the top 5. Heat race wins went to Rob Nylin, J. Gustaf, and Jackson.

In Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models Ray Guss Jr. took full advantage of his outside second row starting position to charge to the front and pick up the win in the 25 lap feature. Nate Beuseling would take second followed by Todd Malmstrom, Rob Toland, and Mike Cothron. Heat winners were Shawn Mulvany and Mike Zemo Jr.

20 4-Cylinders battled it out in their 12 laps feature with Davenport’s Aaron Hitt taking home the feature win. Zach Dahl grabbed second with Zach Bollinger, Cameron Poci, and Brandon Dahl rounding out the top 5. Heat races went to Hitt, Bollinger, and Z. Dahl.

East Moline’s Terry Mattly continued his dominating ways in the Toppert Services Figure 8’s. After winning the heat race, Mattly went on to lead wire to wire in the feature for the win. Second went to Joe Roberson followed by Jake Gustaf, Brian Ashmore, and Brian Kerns.

Racing continues next Sunday, June 9th, with the 8th Annual Ronnie Weedon Memorial. Racing will be the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Modes, UMP Modifieds, U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modifieds, Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, 4-Cylinders, McDonald’s Mod Lites, and the Toppert Services Figure 8’s. Racing begins at 5:30pm with the UMP Modified Mr. Fix It Time Trials.
