The NDRL Issues Statement Regarding Recent Penalties

NDRL - National Dirt Racing LeaguePittsburgh, PA (June 3, 2013) The NDRL recently disqualified a driver at a race that was co-sanctioned by the World Racing Group’s UMP brand. UMP led technical inspections for both of NDRL’s inaugural races held at Paducah International Raceway and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. NDRL officials were excited about our co-sanctioned events because it provided local/regional drivers the opportunity to race under UMP rules, including those for UMP tires they are accustomed to, while earning valuable points for the UMP. UMP officials have been provided full copies of all laboratory tire testing reports from both race events, from which a driver was disqualified following the conclusive results of these tests. With these laboratory tests, there is no gray area, a tire either conforms with the manufacturers submitted benchmark, or it does not. The tire in question had four (4) chemicals in it that do not belong in a Hoosier LM 40 Racing Tire at any level or quantity. NDRL officials have contacted UMP officials numerous times over the course of the last several weeks to work collaboratively with UMP regarding resulting penalties pursuant to the UMP rule book, with no meaningful response. Due to the lack of responsiveness of the UMP officials it seems they lack the courage, leadership or conviction to judiciously enforce their rules as written, in a fair and uniform manner. The rules are intended to protect all competitors, the promoters, the tracks and the fans to ensure safe, fair and exciting competition. Without judicious enforcement of the rules as written, all involved are harmed by the actions of a few. Unfortunately, due to this inaction by UMP officials, the NDRL will no longer co-sanction events with World Racing Group entities for the foreseeable future. The NDRL greatly appreciates our many loyal fans and race teams and look forward to a great conclusion to our 2013 season at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, PA on September 2nd followed by the 25th Anniversary of the “Pittsburgher 100” at Pittsburgh Pennsylvania’s Motor Speedway in Imperial, PA on October 11th and 12th.
