MOWA - Monster Energy Sprint SeriesGharst makes first series start of year to finish in second spot

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Jimmy Hurley exercised some early season MOWA demons in pick up his first series win of 2013, as he checked out and was never really threatened en route to the win.

While Hurley ran away out front, using the highline, he had no idea of the racing that was going on behind him, as Kaley Gharst, A.J. Bruns and later Korey Weyant and Jerrod Hull, put on quite the show battling for second through fifth.

Bruns pressured Gharst on numerous occasions, trying several times in turns one and two to get by the Decatur driver. Weyant, who had won a heat earlier in the night, came on late to make a charge at Bruns. On the final lap in one and two Bruns took a shot at Gharst and lost momentum, leaving the door open for Weyant.

Weyant made one last attempt at the pass in turns three and four but couldn’t get the job done and would have to settle for fourth. Hull rounded out the top five.

Hurley was the fifth different winner in as many races in 2013 on the MOWA Series, while Bruns picked up his fourth podium finish.

Hurley also won the dash, after starting outside the first row and working his way past Gharst midway through the eight lap race to get the win.
