Quad City SpeedwayKewanee’s Ray Bollinger had his sights set very high for the 2013 racing season after finishing the 2012 season 12th in the UMP Modified National Point Standings and racking up eight wins, 38 top 5’s and 54 top 10’s across the Midwest. He also purchased a brand new Elite Chassis from Mooresville, NC, during the off season. Everything changed in an instant though as a fluke accident at work left Bollinger’s ankle in a cast and forced him to miss the first two months of the 2013 racing season.

The road to recovery was completed Sunday night at the Quad City Speedway as Bollinger was second fastest in qualifying then picked up a heat race win and the feature win in the 20 lap UMP Modified feature. Bollinger held off a late charge from runner-up Brock Bauman, who was running the very top side of the track, and Allen Weisser who finished third. Collin Thirlby, who started 12th, took fourth followed by Mike Garland. The other heat winners were Donovan Lodge and Milo Veloz Jr.

Rock Island’s Doug Crampton piloted his 40 machine back to the winner’s circle in the U-Pull-A-Part/Cimco IMCA Modified feature after taking control of the lead near the halfway point. In one of the more impressive runs of the night, Leland Bushong battled his way from the last starting position to take second. Matt Werner, who also came from the back of the pack after a lap 9 flat tire, took third followed by Brian Bushong and Greg Durbin. Heat winners were Joe Jones Jr. and Werner.

The Weber Auto Group Street Stock point leader Jarett Franzen dominated the 15 lap feature, leading every lap Sunday night. Chris Lawrence and Jeremy Gustaf knocked on the door a couple times but Maquoketa’s Franzen would not be denied. C. Lawrence grabbed second with J. Gustaf, Chad Coyne, who started 11th,  and Steven Jackson, who started 15th, rounding out the top 5. Heat winners were J. Gustaf and Perry Gellerstedt.

Colona’s Rob Toland waited until the green-white-checkered finish to make his move for the lead Sunday night in the Eriksen Chevrolet Buick IMCA Late Models. Seasoned veteran LeRoy Brenner led the first 24 laps holding off fierce challenges from R. Toland, Nate Beuseling, and Mike Zemo Jr. The last caution was what R. Toland needed to pick-up his second feature win of the season at the Quad City Speedway. Brenner took second followed by Beuseling, Mike Cothron, and Zemo. Heat winners were Todd Malmstrom and Beuseling.

Brandon Dahl continued his winning ways Sunday night in the 4-Cylinders. After winning the heat race and feature Friday night, B. Dahl followed it by doing the same Sunday night at the Quad City Speedway. B. Dahl led the final seven laps en route to the victory, on the night before his birthday. Zach Dahl finished second with Aaron Hitt, Cameron Poci, and Chance Huston, who started 15th, completing the top 5. Heat winners were Z. Dahl and B. Dahl.

East Moline’s Terry Mattly kept his streak going in the Toppert Services Figure 8’s Sunday night. Mattly came from the last starting spot to grab the win. Jake Gustaf took second followed Andy Warner. The heat winner was Mattly.

Racing continues this Sunday, June 23rd, with the 20th Annual Gary Reinhart Memorial presented by The Truck Doctor. The main event will be a 30 lap UMP Modified feature paying $2,000 to the winner and $125 to start the feature. Also racing will be Weber Auto Group Street Stocks, McDonald’s Mod Lites, 4-Cylinders, Toppert Services Figure 8’s and the Illinois Midget Racing Association. Regular admission prices apply for Sunday night. Special thanks to the following sponsors for making this event possible: The Truck Doctor, A. Fry Construction, Leffler Construction, Black Tie Flooring & Janitorial Services, Stooges’ Saloon, Volvo Rents, and Adam Oppendike Trucking & Excavating.
