Comp Cams Super Dirt SeriesCamden, Tennessee (06/21/13) – The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Models sanctioned their first-ever event in the state of Tennessee on Friday night as they invaded Camden Speedway (Camden, Tennessee), and it was Ross Camponovo, who claimed the $2,000 victory as well as his first ever win with the tour.

Twenty-four entries from six states converged on the 3/8 mile, clay oval, and series point leader, Kyle Beard, earned the New Vision Graphics Pole Award for the feature after racing from the sixth starting spot to a second place finish in his heat race. He was joined on the front row by Ross Camponovo, and it was Camponovo, who jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag with Beard, Robert Baker, Allen Murray, and Dane Dacus in pursuit.

The first of four caution flags in the 35 lapper flew on lap 3 to regroup the field, and on the restart Camponovo extended his advantage on Beard, but by lap 10 Beard began to catch the leader with Baker, Dacus, and Murray close behind. Lap 15 found the caution flying again as Tommy Surrett slowed to bring out the caution in turn two. The ensuing restart saw a multi-car incident, which collected Thomas Dacus, Kenneth Jackson,mAustin Rettig, and Jarryd Holshouser.

The restart again found Camponovo building a two-car length lead as Beard ran in second and Dane Dacus moved past Baker for the second spot on lap 20. Lap 25 found the battle tightening again as Beard made a bid for the lead. Beard’s chances at taking the top spot would again be nullified as Dane Dacus slowed with mechanical failures to draw the race’s final caution.
Camponovo went on to lead the final five laps to claim the win over Beard, Baker, Clay Fisher, and Todd Hall.

The Larry Shaw Race Cars Hard Charger $100 bonus was claimed by Chandler Petty, who advanced from his nineteenth starting spot to an eighth place finish, while Jake Davis was awarded the Quarter Master Hard Luck Award after an engine failure at the conclusion of the b-main forced him to scratch from the balance of the program.

Heat race action began with Ross Camponovo claiming a win in GRT Race Cars Heat Race #1 with Robert Baker winning the NEA Super Gas Heat Race #2. Allen Manufacturing Heat Race #3 was topped by Dane Dacus.

The Boston’s Sports Bar & Restaurants B-Main was won by Robert Lovette.

The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series now heads to Riverside International Speedway (West Memphis, Arkansas) on Saturday, June 22nd for another $2,000-to-win program. 305 Winged Sprint Cars, Open Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks, and 600cc Mini Sprints will all be on the program.
