USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesELM MOTT, Texas (June 26) – Wednesday night found the United States Modified Touring Series at the Heart O’ Texas Speedway with another $4,000 winding up in the pocket of one of the Scott twins … this time, Johnny Scott.

After chasing his brother around the Devil’s Bowl Speedway one night earlier, Johnny Scott turned the tables on his older sibling, Stormy Scott, and picked up his fifth win of the season at Gene Adamcik’s 3/8-mile bullring just outside of Waco.

From the outside of the front row, Johnny Scott beat polesitter Cody Smith into the first turn at the start of the main event and took command … just like his brother had done the night before.

With a sizeable lead over his brother, lapped traffic became part of the equation for Johnny Scott midway through the race and allowed Stormy Scott to close in on his bumper as the leaders searched for opening in the thick swarm of back-markers.

With a three-wide battle in front of them, the yellow flag waved with 10 laps to go in the 40-lapper, giving Johnny Scott a clear track ahead but a slew of hungry chasers behind.

He was able to pull away from his brother on the restart, but caution returned to the speedway with two laps to go which set up a green-white-checkered finish.

The restart was disastrous for Stormy Scott as he and Smith banged wheels in turn 2 which sent Stormy Scott spinning into the infield while several others behind them—including top-5 contenders Steve Whiteaker Jr. and Zack VanderBeek—were also involved in the melee which sent three cars to the rear of the field and two to the pit area.

Meanwhile, 21st-starting Rodney Sanders inherited the third spot and beat Smith into the first turn on the restart to take over second.

Unfazed, Johnny Scott was flawless on the restart and powered away to claim the victory … just like his brother had done the night before.

It was his fifth win of the season, 17th of his career and padded his points lead in the Allgayer, Inc. Southern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

Sanders finished second in the feature race and remains second in the regional standings—14 markers behind Scott. He also earned the Mesilla Valley Transportation Hard Charger Award for passing 19 competitors in Wednesday’s contest.

Smith held on for the third spot while Clyde Dunn Jr. turned a 25th-place provisional starting spot into a fourth-place paycheck.

Kelly Shryock, who started 12th, garnered the fifth spot with George White, Thomas Tillison Jr., Paul White, Trevor Egbert and Chris Brown completing the top 10.

The 4s Motorsports Southern Speedweek powered by Lecolift continues on Thursday as the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series returns to the Kennedale Speedway Park for the second time this season. Johnny Scott was the winner on April 26.

Gates will swing open at 3:00 with hot laps at 6:00 and racing at 7:00. Support class will be Southern Sports Modifieds.

The Kennedale Speedway Park is a semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval located 1.7 miles southeast of I-20 on Mansfield Hwy. (exit 442-A), 1.6 miles southwest on New Hope Rd., then 0.3 mile east on Hudson Village Creek Rd. For more information call 817-988-7433 or check out www.raceksp.com on the World Wide Web.

From there, the series invades the RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, on Friday and then wraps up the regional points battle Saturday at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla.
