Mark Burgtorf, Steven DeLonjay, Abe Huls, Bobby Anders and Austin Bercerra all took home the annual Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, June 30.

Ricky Frankel looked to be the favorite to take the feature event win in the UMP Super Late Model main event as he set the fast time during qualifying but the roll of the dice put him on the outside of row two for the start of the main event. Steve Thorston took off at the drop of the green flag and pulled out to a comfortable lead in the early stages but Frankel had his eyes set on taking over the top stop and did just that on the fifth lap. Frankel then set sail and held onto the lead through lap seventeen. It was then that the excitement started to happen as Mark Burgtorf worked his way through the field from his outside row three starting spot. Burgtorf and Frankel then put on one of the greatest shows ever as the two traded the lead twice a lap as Burgtorf would edge ahead at the line and Frankel taking back the lead on the backstretch which continued until the closing laps. Burgtorf jumped the cushion on the twenty eighth lap giving Frankel a significant lead going to the white flag. Burgtorf rallied back on the low side and edged ahead of Frankel coming off turn four going to the checkered flag with Burgtorf taking the win by a narrow margin of .123 of a second. Frankel settled for the second spot with Michael Long in third. Denny Woodworth scored fourth with Dewayne Kiefer in fifth. Thorston took the win in the fast 6 dash with Jason Perry scoring the checkered flag in the heat race.

Steven DeLonjay took his fifth feature win of the season in claiming the Pepsi Mid-Season Championship in the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds but it was another hard fought battle as he had to hold off Michael Long to get the win. Long settled for second with Dave Wietholder in  third, Robbie Reed in fourth and Craig Spegal in fifth. Wietholder claimed the win in the Fast 6 Dash with Frankie Wellman and DannyLake scoring the checkered flags in the heat races.

Abe Huls took the feature event win in the IMCA Stock Car twenty lap main event but he had to work for it as Michael Larsen led the first sixteen circuits. Larsen slipped high in turn four on the sixteenth lap giving Huls the opportunity he was looking for as he got by to take the lead. Brandon Savage who had damaged the front of his ride in an early race incident tried in vain to overhaul Huls in the closing laps but came up short in the second spot followed by Jake Powers in third, Michael Larsen in fourth and Beau Taylor in fifth. Savage and Larsen were the heat race winners.

The precursor to the much anticipated $1003 King of the Bullring for the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod on Tuesday July 2 was a real barnburner as Bobby Anders, Tony Dunker and Jeff DeLonjay battled tooth and nail throughout the entire event. Anders held off Dunker and DeLonjay lap after lap as the three drivers battled door to door during the final laps. Anders scored the Pepsi Mid-Season Championship feature win with Dunker in a close second and DeLonjay in third. Abe Huls grabbed fourth in Richie Wagy’s SportMod followed by Brandon Dale in fifth. DeLonjay and Anders were the heat race winners.

The final race of the night went to Austin Bercerra as he claimed the Pepsi Mid-Season Championship in the IMCA SportMods. Bercerra grabbed the lead away from Josh Barnes on the second lap and never looked back in claiming his Pepsi Mid-Season Championship. Barnes had to settle for the runner-up spot with Laine VanZandt in third, Kimberly Abbott in fourth and Brandon Lambert in fifth. Bercerra and Pat Dunker were the heat race winners.

The next event at Quincy Raceways is the biggest event of the season on Tuesday July 2 with the appearance of the “Hell Tour”, the $5000 to Win UMP DIRTcar SummerNationals for the UMP Super Late Models. The Summit Modified $1000 to Win UMP Modifieds will join in the fun with the “King of the Bullring” $1003 to Win for the Summy Tire & Auto Center Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods. A large fiend of drivers is expect to compete for all three divisions. Brandon Sheppard holds the points lead in the SummerNationals after sixteen year old Bobby Pierce’s $10,000 win at Lincoln on Sunday night. The Pit Gates open at 3:00, Grandstands at 5:30, Drivers Meeting at 6:30, Hot Laps at 6:45 and Racing is scheduled to start at 7:30pm. Adult tickets are $25, Seniors 65 & older are $22, Students 11-15 are $15 and Kids 10 and Under are Free as always at Quincy Raceways..
