All the fine folks at Sunoco and Bazell Fuels have been great to work with in supporting this crown jewel event. We always look forward to coming to this event every year and having them as our special guest, along with visiting with so many great and loyal fans from that area. We’re excited to work with the King family and the entire staff at Florence Speedway as well and hope to see everyone at Florence Speedway next weekend”, stated Ritchie Lewis, Director, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

In the previous 30 North/South 100 events, there have been 19 different drivers to hoist the winner’s trophy in victory lane. Current LOLMDS champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN and the late Hall of Fame driver; Jack Boggs of Grayson, KY are the only two drivers who have etched their names in the record books as three-time winners of the North/South 100.

There have been six drivers to win the North/South 100 twice. Longtime Florence Speedway racer Pat Patrick of Saylor Park, OH won the first two North/South 100 events, while Jeff Purvis of Clarksville, TN, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, TN, John Gill of Mitchell, IN, Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH, and Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV all have collected two coveted North/South 100 trophies.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series heads to Florence Speedway with a very tight battle for the series points championship. The 2-time and reigning series champion, Jimmy Owens of Newport, TN has a mere 20-point lead over Ashland, KY’s, Steve Francis. Francis will be seeking his first win in this prestigious event which is the largest paying dirt late model race in his home-state. John Blankenship of Williamson, WV, is third in the series standings followed by the 2012 and defending North/South 100 winner, Don O’Neal of Martinsville, IN, and 4-time series champion, Earl Pearson Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Not only will the stars of the LOLMDS have to battle a stout field of national and regional drivers from all over the country, but the talented and tough Florence Speedway local drivers will be looking to defend their home turf as well. This year’s event is shaping up to be one of the strongest North/South 100 fields ever.
