(Moberly, Mo) – The seventh Lucas Cattle Company ULMA season comes to a close Saturday, September 21, with races scheduled at Randolph County Raceway (RCR) in Moberly, Missouri and Lucas Oil Speedway (LOS) in Wheatland, Missouri respectfully.

Over the course of the season, drivers have competed in 37 points-earning events heading into this weekend. Jason Russell of Henley, Missouri is on the eve of claiming his second-straight ULMA title, the first-ever driver to win back-to-back titles in the association’s history. Along the way, Russell accumulated an impressive 15 wins, which means his 15 best finishes of the year are all victories!

Vance Wilson, the 2010 champion also put together a season to remember by claiming 13 wins to this point and in any other year would likely have secured another title if not for Russell’s strong season. Both drivers are expected to compete this weekend at their respective “home tracks” at RCR and LOS.

Last weekend at RCR, 13 competitors raced during two heat races, won by Wilson and Kenny Mudd. The pair started on row one of the 20-lap main event with Wilson again making his way to the point, never to be challenged for the victory. Mudd secured the runner-up position with Larry Winn continuing his late-season surge in third. Newcomer Chase Breid finished fourth, followed by Steve Dieckman, who registered his first top-five finish in fifth. Zeke Langley was sixth followed by Bridget Clifford in seventh, her best-ever ULMA finish. Eighth through tenth were Ashlee Lancaster, Chris Lapp, and Dave Miller.

The final week at RCR is set to roll off Saturday night. Be sure to visit the track’s official website for start times, admission prices, and race details at www.randolphcountyraceway.com or call 660-833-1727 for additional information.

Another strong field of 26 competitors made their way to LOS last Saturday evening for three heat races and the main event. Mike Montague, Larry Jones, and the 2013 ULMA Rookie of the Year, Payton Looney, all claimed preliminary heat-race wins.

Montague again was the man to beat with a dominating performance from pole position to take his second ULMA win of the year. Looney, who is hot off the heels of his championship season at Callaway Raceway, continued his impressive runs with a solid runner-up finish followed by J.D. Hubert of Cross Timbers, Missouri. Jason Russell advanced from eighth on the field to finish fourth with Ethan young posting his second top-five of the year in fifth. Jeremy Kelley, Kevin Coyne, Jones, Jon Binning, and Earl Roark completed the top ten.

According to the track’s news release, “Season Champions will be crowned in all (4) Lucas Oil Speedway Weekly Racing Series classes this Saturday, September 21st as Bill Roberts Chevrolet-Buick in Bolivar, Missouri presents Season Championship Night.” Find out more by visiting www.LucasOilSpeedway.com.
