(LEBANON, Mo.) – For the 1st time since 2001, the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Banner flew over the high-banks of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway as Missouri’s only NASCAR facility and active Asphalt oval saw 5 new NASCAR Short-track champions claim fame for the 2013 racing season as the resurgence of pavement racing is climbing upward.

I-44 Speedway would like to congratulate the 2013 NASCAR Monster Energy Chase For The Cup Track Champions.

NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Pro Late Model Champion – Cole Williams, Sellersburg, Indiana

The 17 year old youngster from the outskirts of Louisville, Kentucky had to battle down to the final night of racing in claiming not only the track championship, but also the Missouri State Championship and Missouri Rookie of the Year honors. In 18 starts in 2013, Williams would find himself in the winner’s circle 6 times while having to come from an average starting position of 10th for the season. Grabbing his 1st feature win of the season on May 25th,

“The Hurrying Hoosier” reeled off 4 straight feature wins by also taking the checkers before the crowd June 9th, 22nd, and 29th. Williams and 17 year old Matt Wallace of Concord, North Carolina would swap back and forth among the track point leaders. It would be July 27th before Williams would take win number 5 of the season. As he headed down the stretch drive which included several nights of double features due to early season rainouts, Williams would keep in check in the top 5 nightly. With the point lead shrinking down the home-stretch,

Cole put his Jim Butner Auto Sales / Rite-Way / Phil Harper Motors / Port City Chevrolet back in victory lane on Sept. 7th in claiming win number 6. On the final feature of the season, Williams kept Wallace in his sights during the final feature to grab the track championship by only 9 points and becoming the youngest Late Model Champion in the history of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway.

Williams also locked himself solidly into the tracks biggest event of the season as the CRA/JEGS Pro Series came to Lebanon in May with the Mercy Masters of the Pro’s 1-44 as Williams timed-in 10th fastest only 3 tenths of a second behind pole winner Chase Elliott with 39 entries present. He drove to an 8th place finish on the lead lap behind winner Elliott.

Williams would lead the winners stats with 6 feature wins while 7 different drivers captured wins this season.

NASCAR Budweiser Modified – Tyler Scott, Nixa, Missouri.

#57 Tyler Scott 2013 NASCAR Budweiser Modified Track Champion

Ending the season like he started it, “The Nixa Nightmare” grabbed his 3rd straight I-44 Budweiser Modified championship, but it wasn’t easy despite the stats. Scott took home the checkered flag 6 times in 2013 while starting an average of 9th in the line-up weekly. Scott would battle it out with veteran Scotty Allen on the Asphalt circuit who led the points for much of the season back and gave him plenty of a run at the title.

Scott opened the 2013 season with a victory on the rain delayed opening night May 11th. After taking the checkered flag in 1st place on May 25th, Scott would have some issues in the post-race technical inspection taking away the victory and dropping him in the standings. June 9th found the familiar number 57 Family Pharmacy car in the winner’s circle. It would be a long dry spell as the next win took place on Aug.17th. With that win despite being involved on an opening lap crash, it set-up a stretch drive in which he took home wins on Aug.24th, Sept. 7th and Sept 14th.

In a very fast and tightly packed field of drivers, Scott would head-up the win column with 6 as 5 drivers assumed Modified features.

NASCAR Monster Energy Sportsman – Randy Besser, Branson, Missouri.

#21 Randy Besser 2013 NASCAR Monster Energy Sportsman Track Champion

The veteran driver from Branson showed you don’t always have to win the most features to capture a track championship. Besser only grabbed 2 feature wins in 2013 taking his first on May 25th and then taking the win on championship night on Sept 14th while taking several heat wins and being constantly in the top 3 in his wedge-bodied Old Time Salon Photos / Branson Storage sponsored number 21.

Besser was 1 of 5 different drivers to grab wins in the Sportsman class. The class featured stock appearing bodies along with the radical wedge body stock-stub type cars and race trucks in which the field had a mixture of veteran and younger drivers.

NASCAR Hoosier Tire Road Warriors – Justin Blake, Lebanon, Mo.

#15 Justin Blake 2013 NASCAR Hoosier Tire Road Warrior Track Champion

The Street Stock version of racing at Lebanon I-44, this class grew leaps and bounds in 2013 as 1st year driver Justin Blake would not only lead the win column, but captured the championship the week before in his Willard Quarries / Camaro. Blake grabbed his first feature win of the season on May 25th in only his second night of racing and from there made it 4 in a row before the streak came to an end. After the opening win victories came about on June 29th, July 3rd, and July 20th before opening night winner Geoff Ledford halted the Camaro. Blake would then take home the honors on Aug 10th and also grabbed the final three features on Aug 31st, Sept 7th and Sept 14th.

Having to start around the 10th starting spot most nights, Blake had teamed-up and pitted this season beside last season’s Sportsman Champion “Little” JC Newell as they had matching color themes and car numbers.

Very quiet outside the car, Justin would let his driving do the talking along with a lot of hard work and preparation as the Road Warrior class would keep everyone watching with close battles all over the track.

NASCAR Coca-Cola Chargers – Jimmy Poindexter, Willard, Mo.

#5 Jimmy Poindexter 2013 NASCAR Coca-Cola Charger Track Champion

The entry level class at Lebanon I-44 providing excitement each week would be the 4 cylinder class as Jimmy Poindexter quietly captured the track championship.

Trying to stay close to the opening point leader Ben White, Poindexter took home his first feature win of the season on June 29th showing everyone just how you drive the high-side of I-44 late in the races. After grabbing win number 1, Poindexter reeled off wins on July 3rd and July 20th before the streak of attempting for 4 in a row was halted by new Father Jordan Nesbitt on July 27th. Poindexter would be close, but it took until Aug 31st in which win number 4 came about as that wrapped-up the season title and placed him as the top winner in the Chargers with 4 wins as 5 different drivers took home wins out of 12 features this season.

Always taking time for the fans and kids also, Jimmy would quickly become one of the cars fans came to see after the last checkered flag would fall and was always helping the competition to keep them on the track and answering questions about the cars and how to get into the sport.

All of the Lebanon I-44 Speedway 2013 NASCAR Monster Energy Chase For The Cup Track Champions along with other top drivers in each class will be honored at their banquet on November 23rd at the Ramada Plaza Hotel & Oasis Convention Center in Springfield, Missouri. More information will follow next week on the banquet.
