MISSISSIPPISTATECHECKSVicksburg, MS (10/08/13) – While the weekend may have started on a sour note, by the time the final checkered flag dropped on the 7th Annual Gumbo Nationals Bub McCool had claimed the $7,500 victory for the third, straight year in his #57J McCool Logging/Henderson Motorsports/Schaeffer Oil/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Jay Dickens Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Thirty-two entries took part in the event, which was sanctioned by the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS), at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi). Bub started on the second row of his heat race on Friday night, but a skirmish on the first lap of his heat race resulted in damage and forced him pit side.

As a result he started deep in a b-main on Saturday night, and his struggles wouldn’t finish there as he was involved in an early-race caution, which sent him to the tail of the field. Despite going to the tail he rebounded to finish 2nd, which locked McCool into the 20th starting spot for the 75 lap finale.

Under threatening skies the main event was rushed to the grid, and when the green flag dropped McCool wasted little time working his way forward through the pack. By lap 10 he ran in the 5th spot, and just fifteen laps later he rocketed past leader, Chris Wall, for the top spot. Once out front Bub outran the rain and a few close calls with lapped traffic to score his fourth win of the year, which came over Brian Rickman, Robert Baker, Chris Wall, and Neil Baggett.

“The car was amazing in the feature, and I can’t thank my crew and sponsors enough,” commented McCool. “However, I want to apologize to my fans and all of the children, who heard my language in the victory lane interview. I was really upset over something said, but I shouldn’t have used that language. I apologize to everyone who heard my words.”

This weekend, October 10th-12th, McCool Motorsports will travel to Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) for the 10th Annual Magnolia State Cotton Pickin’ 100, which will post a $20,000 top prize for the 100 lap finale. Action opens on Thursday evening with an open practice. Friday night’s program includes time trials and heat race competition, while festivities draw to a close on Saturday evening with consolation races and the coveted finale.
