MARYVILLE, TN (October 25) – Smoky Mountain Speedway would present the opening night of the 2013 TN State Championship presented by NAPA on Friday evening at feature event winners included Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, GA in Super Late Models, Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN in Limited Late Models, Brett Ashley of Oliver Springs, TN in Sportsman/Modifieds, and Marty Phillips of Maryville, TN in Mini Stocks.

Billy Ogle, Jr. and Jonathan Davenport would bring the 20 car starting field to the green flag and Davenport would immediately jump to the race lead, with Ogle, Jr. nipping at his heels. This duo would quickly pull away from third place running Casey Roberts and set a torrid pace up front until the action would be slowed on lap 6 when Chad Ogle would roll his mount to a stop in turn three. After two more cautions with 10 laps completed, Davenport and Ogle, Jr. would again scoot away from the field, with Davenport beginning to put a bit of distance between himself and Ogle, Jr., with Davenport pulling away in the final laps to score the $2,000 victory aboard the Steve Cooke owned AES Racing/ Mega Plumbing/En Compass Solutions sponsored #49 Barry Wright Race Car powered by a Clements Race Engine. Ogle, Jr., who earlier in the evening set a new track record in time trials with a lap of 14.860 seconds, would take runner-up honors, while Tommy Kerr would drive home to a third place finish. Skip Arp would finish in the fourth position, while Daniel Baggerly completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Steve Casebolt, Riley Hickman, Stacy Boles, Skylar Marlar, and Robby Moses. Twenty cars would be signed in for competition.

Cory Hedgecock would be the top qualifier among 24 entries in the Limited Late Model portion of the event on Friday evening and would lead all 25 laps to claim the event win. Josh Henry would finish in the second position, while Jason Welshan would charge to a third place finish. Bobby Giffin and Ruben Mayfield would round out the top five at the checkered flag. Completing the top ten would be Trevor Sise, Charlie Parker, Tony Martin, Tod Hernandez, and Jason McCall.

The Sportsman/Modified division would see 16 entries in action and Brett Ashley would lead all 15 laps of the event to claim the feature event win in his first-ever trip to Smoky Mountain Speedway. Brian Cooper, David Kerr, Joe Crabtree, and Mike Lewis would complete the top five. The rest of the top ten finishers would be Joe Freels, Kevin Lewis, Tony Lindsey, Johnny Ridings, and Derrick Shockley.

Eight entries would be signed in for the Mini Stock contest and Marty Phillips of Maryville, TN would take the main event win, leading all 15 circuits. The remainder of the finishing order would be Debbie Singleton, William Tallent, Heath Raper, and Jeremy Teffeteller.
