American Modified SeriesUnion, KY- October 26, 2013- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series completed its 2013 tour on Saturday evening with the Summit Racing Equipment AMS Season Championship event at Florence Speedway and Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, MI scored his first-ever series win and became the first driver ever from the Wolverine State to claim a win on the tour. Ruhlman’s victory was worth $5,000 and came aboard his Rocket Race Cars, Performance Race Engines powered mount.

Brian Ruhlman would take the lead at the start of the 40 lap, $5,000 to win event and would lead until a trio of caution flags at lap 11 would slow the action and would lose the lead for one circuit to Matt Mevert before reclaiming the race lead. Two more caution periods would slow the action in the contest, but Ruhlman would not be denied and would see the checkered flag first. Mevert would hold on to claim a second place finish, while Matt Cooper would drive to the final podium position and claim third. Levi Kissiner would roll home fourth, while Trent Young would earn hard-charger honors for the evening by finishing in the fifth position after starting 24th.

The remainder of the top ten finishers at Florence Speedway’s Summit Racing Equipment AMS Season Championship Event would be series points champion Bryan Barber, Kyle Schornick, 22nd starting Don Adams, Danny Schwartz, and 25th starting Larry Pickelheimer. The 40 lap, $5,000 to win event would be slowed by six caution periods.

In preliminary action, Matt Mevert would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 63 entries at 17.295 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Matt Mevert, while Jimmy Payne scored the win in Williams Precision Engine heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Matt Cooper, with Brian Ruhlman winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Summit Racing Equipment heat five would go to Devin Gilpin, while Michael England won Williams Precision Engines heat six. The Wehrs Machine B-Mains were won by Curt Spalding and Kent Robinson. Series provisional starting spots went to Ricky Tinch and Trent Young, while Larry Pickelheimer was the track provisional.
