Lincoln SpeedwayAt tonight’s Lincoln Speedway banquet it was announced that our team from Jacksonville Speedway will be the promoters of Lincoln Speedway for the 2014 season. We want to take a few moments to let area race teams and fans know our intentions for Lincoln and our other tracks in 2014 and beyond.

We do not expect that most of you will notice any significant change in the day-to-day operation of Lincoln. Norm and Yvonne Horn will continue to be the owners of the facility and Norm will continue providing his excellent track preparation with Yvonne continuing with the race night personnel supervision and providing her warm hospitality. We expect most of the current outstanding support staff to return as well.

Changes will be much more subtle and have a long-term focus. Expect a few more big events at Lincoln in the coming year along with a commitment to continue to grow the weekly racing program. Our primary responsibilities at Lincoln will be to develop a season schedule of events, handle the business aspects of the race track, promote and advertise the shows and develop a greater interest in what we do at local tracks throughout Central Illinois to a new generation of fans and business partners.

Both Lincoln and Jacksonville Speedways will continue to primarily be Friday night race tracks. On nights both tracks are operating, we expect to have programs at each track that allow the other a good chance of success. For the racer we believe that we can develop class structures that allow more affordable and entertaining racing over the long term to protect the health of the sport. None of those changes will happen overnight, but it will be a guiding focus as we make decisions in the coming years.

The benefits of adding Lincoln to our existing tracks at Jacksonville and Quincy, along with our relationship with the MOWA Sprint Car Series is that it allows us to justify a real investment in building fans of grassroots motorsports in Central Illinois. Costs of investing in media, equipment and talent necessary to create a product that is an attractive entertainment option for a new generation of fans can be spread across several venues in the same regional market. It also creates added value for the business partners we hope to get involved in the sport by allowing broader regional exposure.

To the Central Illinois racer in and around Springfield, we hope that over the long term we are able to bring some consistency among rules, more affordable racing, and more exposure for you and your sponsors. We are working closely with our friends at Macon Speedway to make sure that we are all on the same page in what options we make available to the area racer.

To the nearly 1.2 million people that live within 60 miles of Lincoln Speedway – 540,000 of who identify themselves as fans of motorsports – we plan to introduce you to an engaging and exciting alternative to what you watch on Sunday afternoons. We strongly believe that grassroots motorsports has a bright future and we are committed to its long-term health. Lincoln Speedway is an important part of making that happen in Central Illinois. We hope to see you at your local race track in 2014!
