NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model SeriesDAWSONVILLE, GA – Trey Bright of Coker, AL collected his NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Trophy and point fund check for $2,000 on Saturday night during the NeSmith Racing Annual Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame and Thunder Road Museum. To the right of the stage where Bright addressed the gather was his new race car on display.

As looked to the right at his #82 Bright Performance Chevrolet Camaro wearing a new AR Body, Bright smiled as to take it all in before he spoke and reflect on how far Street Stock racing has come in a year’s time.

“I’ve been racing Street Stocks for a long time, and the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division is the best thing that’s ever happen to the sport,” Bright said. “NeSmith Racing has given us a rules package that we can go to all of their sanctioned tracks without having to change anything on the race car. They’ve also given us a less expensive engine with the Chevrolet Performance 602 Crate Engine that has proven to be competitive with the big motors.”

Bright also explained there was something else new this year in Street Stock Racing, and is notoriety.

“The racing in the Street Stock Division has always been very competitive, and we’ve always had a lot of fun doing it,” Bright said. “But this year, NeSmith has let the world know about it because race fans are reading about us, and they now know our names. We’ve been on radio shows, and here we are tonight at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame being honored with the Late Model guys.”

Bright drove the AKA Cores Chevrolet to the 2013 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Championship with 9 wins, 18 top five finishes and 22 top ten in 29 races to beat Kevin Spears of Fayette, AL by three points for the title. Bright and Spears had a hard fought battle for the championship trading the point lead several times during the season.

In addition to his championship, Bright’s Crew Chief Jonathan Thomas was named the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Crew Chief of the Year.

As close as it was, these rivals on the race track were good friends off the track. That seemed to be the case among the majority of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competitors that set the tone of the 2013 season. They raced each other hard on the track, but once they returned to the pit area, they had a good time talking about what just happened.

Spears had some issues with his race car toward the end of the season, and the driver that was right behind him in points, Calvin Cook of Pace, FL offered to lend him his race car to battle Bright for the championship.

The top trio of Bright, Spears and Cook made it to the banquet to collect their awards, as did fifth-place Adam Cheeks of Guntown, MS, seventh-place Mark Barnett of Aberdeen, MS, and eighth-place Jeremy Flurry of Smithville, MS. It was the first season for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division, and their first appearance at the Annual Awards Banquet.

In his State of the Series Address, NeSmith Racing Founder and CEO Mike Vaughn was very complimentary of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division competitors, and said bigger and better things were on the way for the Division that started the season with three sanctioned tracks, and grew to eight by the end of the season.

“You all have put on a good show through the years, and we’re happy that we have the opportunity to showcase this great racing and help spread the word to the rest of the racing world,” Vaughn said. “The growth and success of the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division has exceeded any and all expectations we could have asked for. That’s thanks to the competitors, and the track owners and promoters that believed in the concept and gave it a chance.”

Vaughn then announced that AR Bodies has signed on to be the Presenting Sponsor for the Division in 2014. The series will now be known as the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies.

“AR Bodies has produced a great looking Street Stock body as an option for our competitors to use in 2014,” Vaughn said. “Looking at Trey Bright’s new car with the AR Bodies Camaro body just gives it, and the cars in this Division their own distinctive look that sets them apart from all of the other dirt cars out there.”

There will also be a new NeSmith Racing staff member for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies in 2014, as Vaughn announced that Thomas McReynolds will be the new Technical Director for the Division.

For 2014, the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies has expanded to ten tracks in five different states. The 2014 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division Presented By AR Bodies 27-week season begins on March 24 and runs through September 28.
