DIRTcar(HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS) Brian Shirley was back in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action on Saturday evening, April 5 at Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, Louisiana. The single-day visit to Ark-La-Tex drew 51 competitors, all of whom were vying for the $10,000 top prize. Brian clicked off the eighth quickest lap in Group B during qualifying and later grabbed the third and final transfer spot through his heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the eighth row in the 50-lapper, “Squirrel” blasted past nine competitors en route to a strong seventh place showing in the Pelican State.

Unfortunately, the rest of the weekend was a wash for the cars and stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Both $10,000 to win showdowns – scheduled for Friday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, Mississippi and for Sunday at Outlaw Motorsports Park in Muskogee, Oklahoma – succumbed to inclement weather. Brian, who hails out of Chatham, Illinois, emerged from the April 4-6 weekend ninth in the latest version of the LOLMDS point standings. Full results from Saturday’s tilt at Ark-La-Tex Speedway can be accessed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

Teammate Jason Riggs also beat Mother Nature once this past weekend, as he was in Dirt Late Model competition on Saturday night, April 5 at Federated Raceway at I-55 in Pevely, Missouri. A weekly UMP DIRTcar Series show was held at the St. Louis area facility and a $1,500 winner’s check was on the line. Jason climbed five spots in his heat race to finish fourth, which locked him into the inside of the fourth row for the start of the A-Main. The Harrisburg, Illinois native then hung around the top ten throughout the race and eventually settled for an eighth place performance.
