lakesideKANSAS CITY, Kan. (April 8) — The high-powered modifieds of the USMTS Casey’s Cup powered by Swan Energy are back in action this weekend for a three-race stint that kicks off Friday, April 11, at the historic Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
From there, the stars and cars of the United States Modified Touring Series return to the Salina Highbanks Speedway in Pryor Creek, Okla., on Saturday, and then wrap up the tripleheader on Sunday night at the Outlaws Motorsports Park near Muskogee, Okla.

Each show will pay $2,000 to the main event winner and all three blockbuster events will award valuable points in the Major League Bowhunter Central Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

USMTS Rookie of the Year contender Hunter Rasdon comes in as the points leader after winning the lone race in the region back on March 14, but not far behind is defending USMTS National Champion and reigning King of America, Rodney Sanders.

This will be the ninth time that the USMTS Modifieds have battled at the half-mile oval since their debut in 2012. Ryan Gustin won the inaugural event, but Jeremy Payne has captured three of the last seven here.

Other winners at the Lakeside Speedway include Matt Dotson and Nic Bidinger, both of whom won preliminary events in last October’s Sunflower Showdown. Dotson is the defending USRA Modified National Champion while Bidinger is the defending track champion and coming off of a win this past Sunday.

Terry Phillips has two wins at Lakeside, including the last visit in October when he pocketed $10,000 in the Sunflower Showdown.

A full slate of racing action is on tap for Friday with the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods plus Grand Nationals rounding out the card.

Adult tickets are $18, kids ages 7 to 12 are $6 and children ages 6 and under get in for free. Suite tickets are $25 and pit passes are $35. Pit gates open at 4:30, grandstand gates open at 5:00, hot laps are at 7:00 and racing gets underway at 7:30.

Race fans can pick up a coupon good for $2 off adult grandstand admission by visiting Casey’s General Stores locations in Leavenworth, Lenexa, Shawnee and Platte City, Mo., on race day. To find the location nearest you, check out www.caseys.com.

The Lakeside Speedway is a 4/10-mile semi-banked dirt oval located 1.0 mile west of I-435 (exit 18) on SR 5 (northwest of Kansas City, Kan.). For more information call 913-299-9206 or check out the track’s website at www.lakesidespeedway.net.

On Saturday, April 12, it’s a return to another popular venue when series heads back to the Salina Highbanks Speedway.

Jason Hughes was the winner when the USMTS Modifieds made their first appearance at the Salina Highbanks Speedway on Aug. 27, 2004. He returned to the track’s winners circle when the USMTS visited in 2012 and again in 2013.

Terry Phillips and Stormy Scott have also tasted victory at Salina, while Ryan Gustin has three checkered flags here, including last October’s Sooner Showdown.

The Salina Highbanks Speedway is a high-banked 3/8-mile clay oval located 7 miles east of Pryor on SR 20. For reservations and ticket information, visit the website at www.salinahighbanksspeedway.com or call 918-434-7223.

On Sunday, April 13, the series makes it’s way back to the Outlaw Motorsports Park for the first time since the 2011 campaign. Past winners include Ryan Gustin, Kelly Shryock and Johnny Scott.

The Outlaw Motorsports Park is a high-banked 3/8-mile dirt oval located southwest of Muskogee on I-40 to US 69, then 10 miles north to the Wainwright Exit, then 0.1 mile east. For more information call 918-687-7077 or 918-302-0366 or visit www.outlawmotorsportspark.com online.
