(Peoria, IL) Brian Shirley made it two for two on Saturday night, winning the 7th Annual Don Bohlander Tribute race at Peoria Speedway, picking up a $3,000 paycheck. Shirley won Friday night at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach.
Shirley shared the front row with former Bohlander Tribute winner Jason Feger, and took the lead at the start. Shirley and Feger darted through lapped traffic, with Feger passing Shirley for the lead on lap 36 going into turn 1. Shirley returned the favor going into turn 3 and held off Feger for the win. Feger held on for a 2nd place finish ahead of Scott Schmitt.
“To fight off Jason there at the end was tough”, Shirley said in victory lane. “We were good at the start, but I started missing my spots and thinking too much. When I started driving and not thinking as much, we got faster.”
Erik Bruce survived 4 early caution periods, and held off Butch Weisser in winning the UMP Modififed feature. Steve Shannon fought off Austin Simpson in for the win in the Steel Block Late Models. John Farris, who is pursuing the UMP National Street Stock Championship, fought off Chuck Barnes, Jr for the win in the Street Stock division. Kenny Butterfield defeated Brent Terry and Daniel Bremeyer in the UMP Hornet division.
Action resumes at Peoria Speedway next Saturday night with the running of the “Gary Cook, Jr. Memorial” for UMP Modifieds.
