DIRTcar(HARRISBURG, ILLINOIS) The Riggs Motorsports team ventured to a trio of different racetracks in the states of Illinois and Iowa over the April 18-20 weekend and racked up a pair of top five performances. Things kicked off on Friday night when Brian Shirley invaded Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois for a special $2,000 to win ‘Deuces Wild’ showdown. Brian ran third in his heat race and second in the dash, but later slipped back a few spots in the feature before winding up fifth in the final rundown behind only winner Bobby Pierce, Dennis Erb, Jr., Shannon Babb, and Randy Korte.

On Saturday evening, both Brian and teammate Jason Riggs were in the pit area at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa for the annual running of the ‘Slocum 50,’ which boasted a $10,555 top prize. Brian won his heat race and finished second in the dash prior to starting the 50-lap feature from the outside of the front row. The Chatham, Illinois ace was then running inside of the top five late in the distance when he unfortunately got into the wall, which knocked him to a sixteenth place effort. Jason received an American Late Model Series (ALMS) provisional to gain access into the ‘Slocum 50’ and took advantage by passing eleven competitors en route to a thirteenth place performance.

The busy three-day weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Quincy Raceway in Quincy, Illinois. The American Late Model Series (ALMS) presided over a $2,000 to win show and Jason was the lone Riggs Motorsports driver in attendance. Jason, who is planning on competing for the ALMS-West point title in 2014, finished third in the Easter night event behind only victor Ryan Unzicker and runner-up Kevin Weaver. Brian and his #81 team will turn their focus back to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this upcoming weekend (April 25-26), as they will trek east to Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland and Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex in Markleysburg, Pennsylvania. Brian comes into the pair of $10,000 to win battles ninth in the latest LOLMDS point standings. Jason, on the other hand, will travel to the newly-reopened Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway in Calvert City, Kentucky on Saturday for the UMP DIRTcar Series sanctioned ‘Bluegrass Nationals,’ which also pays $10,000 to the winner.
