American Modified SeriesBrownstown, IN-April 26, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series made its only appearance of the 2014 season at Brownstown Speedway in Brownstown, IN on Saturday evening and Devin Gilpin of Columbus, IN would become the first three-time winner with the series in 2014 by taking the victory in the 30 lap main event aboard the Don Fleetwood owned DASCO Race Supply/A-1 Pallet/Bane Logging/Brown Oil Service/Blondie’s Pizzeria and Pub/Eddie Gilstrap Motors/TomCat Performance/Bilstein/Landrum Springs/FAST Shafts/Slicker Graphics/All Star Performance/BSB Manufacturing sponsored #1G Impressive Race Car sporting power from a Mike Shell Race Engine.

The victory was worth $1,500 and would be Gilpin’s fifth career series victory and his third win with the tour in 2014. It was also a history making evening for Gilpin as he became the first driver in this history of the series to win three straight events on the tour.

Brian Shaw would take the lead at the drop of the green flag, with Joe Godsey, Devin Gilpin, Jeff Curl, and Ryan Thomas in pursuit. Gilpin would roll past Godsey for good on lap 3 and set his sights on Shaw, before action would be slowed by back-to-back cautions for spins by Jarod Fleetwood. The restart would see Gilpin work by Shaw for the lead, only to have Shaw reclaim the top spot one circuit later. At this point, the front five would work in line around the bottom of the track until caution waved on lap 11 for a spin by Roy Bruce, Jr. The restart would see Gilpin pressure Shaw for the lead and lap 13 would see Gilpin change his line from the bottom to the top and the action at the point picked up at this point. Gilpin would actually work past Shaw on lap 20, only to have the pass negated by a caution wave for debris in turn four. After a pair of failed restarts due to spins by fifth place running Victor Lee and then by Rick Gumm, action resumed and Gilpin would make what would turn out to be the winning pass entering turn three on lap 21. Gilpin would pull away in the final six circuit as Curl would battle with Shaw for second. Gilpin would see the checkered flag first, with Shaw and Curl in tow, while Thomas and Godsey completed the top five.

The remainder of the top ten in the finishing order at Brownstown Speedway’s A-Main were 15th starting David McWilliams, Jared Bailey, Roy Bruce, Jr., Derek Groomer, and Michael England. The $1,500 to win event would be slowed by eight caution periods.

In preliminary action, Josh Harris would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among 29 entries at 15.460 seconds, which is a new track record and was one of four drivers to break the old track record. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Brian Shaw, while Devin Gilpin scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Joe Godsey, with Jeff Curl winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Clayton Perry would be the winner of the Stealth Racewear B-Main, while series provisional starting positions went to Darren Crawhorn and Jarod Fleetwood.
