Wheatland, MO- (May 5th, 2014)- On a picture perfect spring night at Lucas Oil Speedway, Zach Daum scored a thrilling win with a last lap slider over Daniel Robinson in the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series in the first main event of the evening at the Impact Signs, Awnings & Wraps Open Wheel Showdown. Randy Hibbs took his first ever ASCS Warrior Region win holding off Danny Lasoski at the finish. In the final main event of the evening Aric Gentry took home the win in the WAR Wingless Auto Racing Sprints.

“We had a great field of cars and great racing all night.” commented Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson. “That last lap of the POWRi Midget feature is one they’ll be talking about for years to come!”

Zach Daum of Pocahontas, Illinois took home his first POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series win of 2014 with a last lap, last corner pass on runner-up finisher Daniel Robinson. Daum started in the second position in his Daum Motorsports-prepared, Toyota-powered Eagle staying within striking distance of the lead for the entire race on the 3/8 mile semi-banked oval. Pole-sitter and Friday night’s feature event winner at Valley Speedway, Darren Hagen of Riverside, California held the lead for a majority of the race, enduring steady pressure from Kokomo, Indiana’s Parker Price-Miller in the beginning half of the race.

Following a caution for the spun machine of Spencer Bayston, Price-Miller attempted to overtake Hagen, but the 2013 POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Rookie of the Year was unable to do so. While Hagen, Price-Miller and Zach Daum were all clinging to the bottom side of the race track, it would be Daniel Robinson of Eulling, Illinois who would begin the daring task of cleaning off the high-side. At first, the risk didn’t appear to pay off as Robinson would lose a spot. But then a caution for the spun car of Michelle Decker would bunch the field back up, giving Robinson another chance. “It might have been a bad move, I might have ended up tenth,” explained Robinson. “But I’m prepared to take those risks.” It would pay off as Robinson began to pass cars one by one and eventually Hagen was forced to relinquish the lead to Robinson’s McCreery Motorsports-sponsored, A.J. Felker-prepared, Esslinger-powered FSC.

Once Robinson took control of the lead, it was clear the top side had come in and drivers Zach Daum and Parker Price-Miller changed their lines and moved to the outside. “I never dreamed it would have moved off the bottom,” explained Zach Daum. “But they showed us the top and we reeled them back in up there. We had fun.”
Zach Daum, the defending POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Champion, would chase down Robinson laying the ground work for a battle to the very end. With only a few laps remaining, Zach Daum would show his hand and attempt to pass Robinson. But Robinson would deflect the pass, killing Daum’s momentum. On the last lap, heading into turn three, Daum would again be on Robinson’s back bumper with Price-Miller in tow.

In classic, dirt track style, Daum would dive to the middle of the track, sliding in front of Robinson and the duo would come out of four with Daum in the lead at the checkers. “I thought we had it won,” explained a clearly deflated and disappointed Daniel Robinson. “We hired A.J. (Felker) to crew chief for us this weekend and hopefully we can continue that.”
After struggling at Valley Speedway, Parker Price-Miller was able to rebound to podium. “Overall it was a good night,” explained third place finisher Price-Miller. “We blew up last night unfortunately, but we got it changed today and made it work for tonight.”

For the first time, Randy Hibbs stood atop the podium with the American Sprint Car Series, winning the Impact Signs Open Wheel Showdown at the Lucas Oil Speedway.
His first win against the Speedway Motors Warrior Region, fifth starting Hibbs grabbed the lead on Lap 14 from Jay Russell, who led a single lap after early leader Randy Martin nearly slapped the wall.

Danny Lasoski crossed second with Parker Price-Miller taking the final podium step. Jay Russell and Josh Fisher completed the top five. Randy Martin ended up sixth with Cody Baker, Josh Baughman, Tyler Blank, and Trevor Muths rounding out the top ten.

Making a seven and half hour tow from Kentucky, Aric Gentry picked up the win Saturday night with the WAR Series presented by Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps at Lucas Oil Speedway.

On the original start, Chris Parkinson got a great run from his third starting spot to lead Korey Weyant and Gentry into turn one.The leaders got bottled up causing contact directly behind them with Cody Baker, Zach Daum, J.D. Black, Chad Goff, and Josh Stephens all being involved. Daum got upside down and would not be able to continue as the other four competitors would restart at the tail of the field.

Weyant got a better start the second time as he led the first lap over Gentry and Parkinson. With a lap in the books, a yellow come out for Chad Goff, who stopped at the pit entrance in turn two.

On the restart, Gentry would work his way past Weyant with the pair staying right together over the next two laps. With three laps in the books, another yellow would come out for P.J. Grimes, who got into the wall in between turns one and two. He would be able to restart.

Gentry again led on the restart as he was followed by Weyant and Parkinson. Behind the lead trio, rookie Devon Huff was running fourth with Taylor Walton fifth.
Lap by lap, Gentry extended his lead over Weyant as Parkinson, Huff, and Walton ran in the same order.

By lap thirteen, Kevin Risley had moved his way into the fifth position as he got by Walton. Over the next seven laps it was Gentry, Weyant, Parkinson, Huff, and Risley as Stephens had worked his way into seventh from the back of the pack.
Huff would see his solid run come to an end as he went pitside.

On lap twenty-one, Stephens was making a charge for sixth when he and Walton got together in turn two. The contact would end Walton’s night and Stephens would restart once again at the back of the pack.

This would give the field one final shot at Gentry, but Gentry again took off and won comfortably in his Larry Gentry-owned DRC with Shaver power under the hood. The win was worth $1000 for Gentry as title sponsor Impact Signs, Awnings, and Wraps put up an extra $200 to the winner. Behind Gentry, things got very interesting as Weyant slowed as he took the white flag. This caused a lot of congestion with Parkinson getting by to run second in his Fifty Fourth Street Bar and Grill/Ozark Barge and Dock Service DRC with Parkinson power. Fifteenth-starting Risley came home third in the Risley Trash Service/Gateway Tire Triple X with Rose Racing power.

Coming home fourth from nineteenth and picking up an extra $100 courtesty of Impact was Jeff Wingate in the APH/Bonecutter’s Body Shop Maxim with Wesmar power under the hood. Rounding out the top five was John Helm, who started eighteenth in his Helm Racing/Vee Village Eagle with Wesmar power. Baker rebounded from his earlier problems to come home sixth and Mark Finnell was seventh. Stephens moved back to eighth over the last few laps with Brad Graham and Bob Thoman rounding out the top ten.
