(Warrensburg, MO) Central Missouri Speedway continues a long-standing Memorial Day weekend tradition this Saturday and Sunday when drivers and fans converge on the speedway grounds for two straight nights of action. USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, ULMA Late Models, and the Show-Me Vintage Racing Series will compete throughout the weekend.

Through the years, 346 drivers signed in to compete in at least one of the 42 previously held CMS big-money Modified specials. Nineteen-year CMS owners/promoters Earl and Susan Walls brought modified specials to the area in 1998. Last names synonymous with track special events include Marrant, Boney, Shryock, Karrick, Bone, Schultz, Blackburn, Wille, and Lyle, just to name a few.

Who will take home the hefty $3,000 payday this weekend is anyone’s guess especially since this year seems to be exceptionally wide open. In past years, some of the touring modified drivers dropped in on the action but they are scheduled to compete in a series of events to the north this week, which leaves the door wide open for local and regional USRA hot-shoes to claim the win.

Track point’s leader Jim Moody is one of the favorites heading into the big weekend. Moody annihilated the competition last weekend with a dominating performance, but a win this weekend will not come easy. Moody’s best in one of the summer events is second place. CMS has always drawn the best drivers for these special events and one thing fans have come to expect is the mystique of who will drop in and go for the greenbacks. There was no pre-entry list compiled and drives can compete on either night to qualify into the 40-lapper on Sunday evening.

Along with Moody, national USRA point’s leader Terry Schultz and USRA standout John Allen have each captured wins at CMS this season. Others who will likely throw their hat into the ring include Tim Karrick, Dean Wille, Shad Badder, Jason Thompson, Danny Scrogham, and Aaron Marrant. Several regional drivers have inquired about the race, which again add to the suspense of who will show! Please note mention of driver name does not guarantee CMS race appearance.

CMS has something for everyone this weekend. On Saturday the 24th and Sunday the 25th the track hosts its first-ever wine-tasting event from Noon to 5 p.m. each day. The event takes place in the shaded area close to the front side parking area, just off of Hwy 13, four miles north of Warrensburg.

Patrons should bring their favorite relaxing chairs and blankets and enjoy an afternoon in the shade featuring wines from Arcadian Moon Vineyards and Winery, La Bella Vineyards and Winery, and Fahrmeier Family Vineyards. Granny’s Old Fashioned Kettle Corn featuring home-made Kettle Corn, three different types of Pork Rinds, Grilled Chicken Sandwiches, and Pulled Pork sandwiches available for purchase. The event also features live music throughout the afternoon.

Activities begin on Saturday, May 24 with USRA ‘Mighty’ Modifieds qualifying for the inside row starting grid for the next night’s finale. Also on the card, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, B-Modifieds, and the Show-Me Vintage Racing Series. Action for Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, and Pure Stocks are track points-earning races. USRA Modifieds are not competing for “track points” throughout the weekend. ULMA Late Models compete for ULMA championship points both nights.

Track registration fees do not apply to USRA Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, or Show-Me Vintage Series competitors on Saturday. Track registration fees DO apply to B-Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks on Saturday because the classes are competing in track championship points-earning events. All weekend long, competing modifieds must be USRA licensed or purchase the temp license. All ULMA late model drivers must be licensed members with ULMA or purchase the temp license on site.

Pricing for Saturday is regular weekly pricing. General admission for adults $12, military w/I.D. and senior citizens 65 years and up $10, kids ages six to twelve $5, children $5 and under free. Pit Gates open at 4:30, grandstands at 5, driver’s, meeting at 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30. Be sure to visit www.centralmissourispeedway.net for all the latest news and information. Pit Passes are $25.

Night two takes place on Sunday, May 25 with USRA ‘Mighty’ Modifieds returning for qualifying spots to make up the outside row starting grid for the 40-lap finale at the end of the night. ULMA Late Models return for a second night of action with USRA B-Modifieds and Street Stocks also competing. Note: Night 1 of the special (Saturday night) the B-Modifieds are not USRA sanctioned, only night two on Sunday night are the B-Modifieds USRA sanctioned. Street Stocks are not competing for “track points” but must comply with CMS rules as written.

Track registration fees do not apply to any competing class on Sunday. However, all competing modifieds must be USRA licensed or purchase the temp license, all competing B-Modifieds must be USRA licensed or purchase the temp license, and all ULMA late model drivers must be licensed members with ULMA or purchase the temp license on site.
