POWRiLincoln, IL. – Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nevada rallied from the seventh place starting position to claim his second career POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series win of 2014 driving for Don Fike’s RFMS Racing and Aaron Andruskevitch of Riverton, Illinois stole the checkers to earn his first POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series victory of 2014 for night two of Illinois SPEED week at the ¼ mile semi-banked Lincoln Speedway.

Friday’s event at Lincoln Speedway was the second of four straight nights of racing for the 2014 Illinois SPEED week. Teams will travel to Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois on Saturday, June 7th. The Illinois SPEED Week finale will take place at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Illinois on Sunday, June 8th.

Pole-sitter Parker Price-Miller of Kokomo, Indiana would bring the field to green, but Isaac Chapple would bring out the caution in turns one and two, collecting Jacob Patton, Jason McDougal, and Daniel Robinson, resulting in a compete restart. Price-Miller, the 2014 POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series Rookie of the Year would set the pace on the restart while being challenged for the lead by Jake Blackhurst of Farmington, Illinois. While Blackhurst and Price-Miller dueled, Tanner Thorson would begin to work over Swansea, Illinois’ Nick Knepper for third just as the caution came out for Matt Sherrell’s disabled Esslinger-powered Bullet Chassis.

On the restart, Thorson would power by both Blackhurst and Knepper for second and then take the lead from Price-Miller on the following lap, exiting turn two. Just as Blackhurst and Price-Miller were battling for second, the caution flew for the multiple car pileup of Austin Brown, Jason McDougal, and Jake Neuman. When Thorson would bring the field to the green, he would set a blistering pace in the RFMS-DRC Chassis, but on lap 19 Nick Bailey would bring out the caution and at the same time, Tyler Thomas and Nick Knepper would tangle coming off turn four battling for the fourth position.

When green flag racing resumed, Price-Miller would take the second position from Jake Blackhurst and attempt to chase down Thorson until the caution was brought out for Nick Bailey. With the field bunched back up, Thorson would lead the field to the green, only to see the caution again for the fifth and final time for Isaac Chapple, Terry Babb, and Matt Sherrell in turn two. On the final restart, Thorson would attempt to pull away from the field as Carl Junction, Missouri’s Andrew Felker would begin to set up Blackhurst for third. “A fourth place last night and third place tonight is pretty good,” explained Felker. “I can’t thank the guys enough for all the hard work they put in.”

With laps winding down, Felker would take the third position, following first place finisher Tanner Thorson and second place finisher Parker Price-Miller to the line. “These guys gave me an awesome car,” explained Thorson. “They worked their butts off all day. Greg put an awesome car underneath me and I can’t thank these guys enough. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t be racing this week.”

“Just a very good run for us,” explained second place finisher Parker Price-Miller. “We’re going to take this as a momentum builder.”

Aaron Andruskevitch of Riverton, Illinois battled 2012 POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series Champion Joe B. Miller in the opening laps of the 20 lap feature to earn his first POWRi feature win of the 2014 season. “I love to run with Joe B Miller like that,” explained a very happy Andruskevitch. “He’s so clean we can run five laps side by side. It’s nice for a change to get one from Joe B instead of him getting one of me.”

Nathan Benson of Concordia, Missouri took the second position for a solid points night. “We were just a little too free at the beginning of the feature, but the last ten laps we had an awesome car. We’re just happy to finish a race with the trouble we’ve been having. It was a good night and hopefully we can have two more good nights.”

Early race leader Joe B. Miller rounded out the top three. “It is what it is,” explained a disappointed Miller. “We struggled the first night of SPEED week, changed some stuff on it, swapped motors this morning. It was better tonight for sure.
