Pontoon Beach, IL (June 13th, 2014) In what had to be one of the most exciting UMP DIRTcar Modified features at Tri-City Speedway in recent years, Danny Ems of Barnhardt, MO took his first ever UMP DIRTcar Modified win. The former Street Stock ace competing in his first season in the UMP DIRTcar Modified division has been a strong competitor since his first night out. The feature event starting out with Michael Long jumping out to the lead and opening up a comfortable margin until a caution on lap ten slowed the field. Long would have some mechanical problems and would pull off the race track during the caution. That would turn the lead over to Ems with Timmy Hill in second. On the restart, those two would battle side by side lap after lap with Hill on the top side and Ems on the bottom. Meanwhile, Ray Walsh who started way back in the ninteenth starting spot after being unable to make his heat race because of mechanical problems, was on the move. Walsh was using the high side picking off car after car lap after lap. Soon he would up to third and battling with Ems and Hill for the top spot. As the laps were winding down, Hill moved slightly ahead of Ems for the lead as Walsh pulled up to battle Ems for second. As they crossed the line for two laps remaining, Ems and Walsh closed up on Hill and the three of them would go three wide for the lead. Ems would get a slight advantage on the low side but Hill would fight back and draw even on the top side. Walsh would lose some of his momentum when he took the middle lane to make it three wide. That left Ems and Hill to fight it out on the last lap with Ems beating Hill back to the finish line for the win. Walsh would finish third with Rick Conoyer taking fourth and Rick Stevenson fifth.

In the UMP DIRTcar Late Model division, Michael Kloos and Scott Weber battled side by side for the lead for the first several laps before Kloos finally settled in out front. Randy Korte would slip past Weber for second just a few laps later and then proceeded to reel in Kloos for the lead. Korte would work on Kloos for the top spot for several laps before finally getting the position. Korte would pull away and seemed to be on his way to a comfortable win. However, Jim Shereck came to life around half way through the event and started passing car after car and was soon up to second and reeled in Korte. Once Korte realized the Shereck was there, he would move up to the high side that Shereck was using and would open back up a small lead and picked up the win. Shereck was second, Kloos third, Weber fourth and Mark Voigt fifth.

Aaron Heck would again the UMP DIRTcar Pro Late Model division. Heck would have to battle his brother Daniel Heck along with Josh Jackson in the middle part of the feature. Aaron Heck’s car had a severe “push” during the early parts of the feature which allowed Daniel Heck to lead several laps. But once Aaron Heck changed his driving style to avoide the “push”, he regained the lead and pulled away to victory. Kolby Vandenbergh would work his way up to finish second with a late race run. Josh Jackson would take third with Daniel Heck finishing fourth. Paul Kuper would round out the top five.

Jacob Rexing would win the Street Stock feature event in convincing fashion. Rexing would win by nearly a straightaway while there was an intense three way battle for the second spot between Tony Walker, Dan Pilkington and Fred Sparks. Sparks and Pilkington would race side by side for second for the final couple of laps, trading a little paint along the way. Sparks would get the second place finish with Pilkington third and Walker fourth. Matt Hancock would round out the top five.

In the UMP DIRTcar Sport Compacts, Dallas Lugge would take the win by making a dramatic three wide pass for the lead late in the race. Cole Queathem led most of the feature event with Rob Shaw putting the pressure on him. With just a few laps remaining, Queathem would slip in turn two allowing Shaw to pull along side, but Lugge would have good momentum down the back stretch and would get on the inside of Shaw making it three wide going into turn three. Lugge would come out of turn four with the lead and would hold off Shaw for the win. Queathem would finish third with Travis Bittle fourth and Sean McCarty fifth.

Mindy Wiser kept her record perfect in the Dirt Diva division. She has won every feature in that division since it started in 2013. Penny Price would finish second with Wanda Bailey taking third.
