(Warrensburg, MO) After a week of steady rain in Warrensburg the sun returned along with the drivers and fans to watch racing action at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) on 610 Sports Radio Race Night, featuring the USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and guest class Grand Nationals.

USRA Modified and Street Stock drivers were anxious to tune in their race programs with the Fourth of July Tom Wilson BBQ Bowl specials just a few weeks away. All total, 62 drivers drove into the pits for another week of exciting CMS action. The guest class Grand Nationals, primarily out of the Kansas City, area made their first appearance at CMS in 2014 with a nice field of cars.

The Pure Stock class is showing signs of growth as they continue their first season at CMS with new and veteran drivers appearing each week for some tough competition. Six drivers were on hand to race this week. Bobby Raybourn from Odessa grabbed his second heat win with Darrin Christy second, followed by points leader Gary Akers during the heat race.

In the feature, Raybourn shot into the early lead with Christy pressuring him on the high side. Raybourn then pulled away with Akers finally sneaking into second with a move down low past Christy. Christy and Akers remained side by side for most of the race until late when Christy fought back into second. Raybourn won easily for his fourth feature win of the season with Christy in the second spot, followed by Akers, Don Johnson and Leroy Morrison. Robbie Sullins left the track early with a flat after an incident early in the race.

Another competitive field of 18 B-modified drivers checked in with Cody Frazon grabbing his first heat win this year, Troy Carlyle from Kearny claimed his third win of the year in heat two and Warrensburg driver, Dean Wille snagged the heat three.

Wille, the current point’s leader and three- time winner, was a marked man again this week in his University of Central Missouri -Society of Automotive Engineers number 68. Early on, Carlyle looked to be the driver to claim a feature win as Dallas White and Jeff Douty were also in contention. On lap five, with three- wide racing, Wille took over the top spot. After several caution flags, Wille then took over and started to move out with Carlyle attempting to keep it interesting. Meanwhile, Douty, White, Jason Billups, and Frazon were bunched up in the top five. In the end, Wille once again claimed the win as drivers will have to wait another week to try for the victory. Behind Wille at the line were Carlyle, White, Douty, Bobby Wood, and Jason Billups finishing out the top six.

The Grand Nationals made their first appearance at CMS with Tim Shields from Shawnee, Kansas continuing his winning ways as he crossed the line to claim the heat race victory ahead of Gary Donaldson and Don Marrs. The feature event had Shields battling with Donaldson for the early race lead until lap three when Mike Taylor pulled into the infield with a flat tire. Shields then started to pull away from Donaldson on the low side after several laps of side by side action. Shields eventually claimed the victory, his second feature win of the weekend after winning at Lakeside Speedway the night before. Donaldson finished second with Marrs third, Nick Drew fourth and Taylor in fifth.

The Street Stock class had 16 cars in the pit area as they draw closer to their $1,500 to win Fourth of July Special event. This weekend Clayton Campbell from Sedalia took his third heat-race win while Brett Wood from Warrensburg grabbed his fifth heat race victory.
As the feature started, Wood had his hands full with Campbell and James McMIllin. Wood held off the other drivers throughout the feature, but McMillin continued searching for a way around him. On lap 10, a caution flew for debris on the front stretch bunching up the field, which gave McMillin another chance to pass Wood. McMillin tried moving to the high side with just three laps remaining in the race but as the double checkered flags flew, Wood captured his fifth win of the year with McMillin settling for second. Troy Turley moved up to third on the final lap with Campbell and Allen Perryman rounding out the top five.

USRA Modifieds completed the night’s action in preparation for the $5,000 to win special event over the Fourth of July weekend. A tight championship points race is developing with less than 10 points separating Shad Badder, Jim Moody, Terry Schultz and Tim Karrick at the top of the list.

The heat races were amazing to watch once again with Warrensburg driver, Dean Wille in front of Jim Moody and Terry Schultz in heat one and Aaron Marrant out of Orrick grabbing the checkers in heat two, followed by Tim Karrick and Nick Pence .

The 25-lap feature was another chance for a new driver to claim the weekly $1,000 to win prize. This week, Moody looked strong all night as he jumped into then early lead with Karrick, Marrant, Wille and Schultz hot on his tail. Karrick closed on Moody on lap 5 but Moody ultimately started to pull away. Halfway through, Moody was in command with Karrick, Marrant and Schultz battling for second through fourth. Then, Wille slowed in turn four bringing out the second yellow of the night, he was unable to continue the race.

On the following restart, Karrick attempted to move down low and bumped the turn four uke tire, which caused left front suspension problems and wheel damage. Track officials determined he was able to continue the feature and he stayed on the track. In the meantime, Shad Badder the current point’s leader going into the race had to stop in the infield and was unable to continue due to left-front damage to his car.

After another caution, involving Gunner Martin and Karrick in turn two, the final five laps saw Moody hanging on to claim his third feature win of the year. Marrant moved into second just ahead of Schultz in third followed by Dalton Kirk, who was later disqualified. As a result, Jimmy Eaton moved into fourth with Scotty Martin taking fifth. Moody later commented, “We got to keep winning each week to stay out in front of this tough field of USRA drivers.”

Next week at CMS is Budweiser Race Night at CMS featuring USRA Modifieds, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds, Pure Stocks, and guest class Mid-America Lightning Sprint cars. Start times for the weekend include pit gates opening at 4:30 p.m., grandstands at 5, drivers meeting 6:30, hot laps at 7, and racing at 7:30. General admission for adults is $12, Military w/I.D. and Seniors 65+ $10, kids ages six to twelve $5, five and under free!
