kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Ky. – Billy Moyer Jr. took the lead on the 13th lap and led the rest of the way to win Saturday night’s 35-lap Late Model feature at Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway.

It was the second win of the year at the 3/8-mile dirt oval and paid Moyer, of Batesville, Arkansas, $3,000. The second-generation star won $10,000 by taking the April 26 Bluegrass Nationals feature at KLMS.

In the other special on the night’s program, J.R. Baize took the $1,500 prize in the 25-lap feature for UMP Stock Cars.

Moyer worked his way up from sixth starting spot in the 17-car Late Model field and was riding second by the 12th lap, when leader Dave Dacus slammed into the Turn 1 wall, bringing out the yellow flag.

Rodney Melvin, who had been chasing Dacus until Moyer passed him, also dropped out during the caution-flag delay.

On the restart Moyer pulled away from Tanner English and Terry English and won by a little more than five seconds over the Benton, Kentucky, son-and-father tandem.

Randy Sellars, winner of the previous week’s feature, was fourth and Justin Asplin rounded out the top five.

Dacus and Melvin ended up 14th and 15th.

Baize, of Central City, Kentucky, led from start to finish and scored his second win of the year at KLMS. Joel Landers moved into second place o the fifth lap and finished in the runner-up position, with Mike Hodges taking third after a position-swapping battle with Rex Rutter.

Keaton Downing came from last starting spot in the 25-car field to finish fifth.

Trent Young of Hopkinsville dominated the Modified feature to score his fifth win of the year at KLMS and Tait Davenport won the Pro (Crate) Late Model feature for the second week in a row and third time in the last five races.
