For Immediate Release–

The Independence Day Weekend of racing kicked off at Double X Speedway Thursday night with the opening round of the ASCS Warrior Region Red, White and Blue Tour. If the racing on opening night is any indication, Missouri Sprint Car Fans are in for a great weekend of racing. With 31 of the regions top stars on tap things shaped up to be quite interesting. The four qualifying heat races gave fans a chance to pick their favorites in some exciting preliminary racing. The first heat was brought to the green by Northwest Missouri veterans JR Topper and Randy Hibbs. After the initial start was waved off, Hibbs took to the high line and earned the victory over Topper, Harli White and Corey Nelson. The second heat saw a battle between Jonathan Cornell and Brandon Hanks with Cornell taking the lead as the white flag was waved only to have Hanks pull a slide job in turn 3 making contact with Cornell but Hanks held on for the victory. Cornell was able to gather his machine and claim second with Randy Martin and Tyler Blank third and fourth. The third heat was all Kyle Bellm, claiming the victory with Josh Fisher second, Chris Morgan third and Sean McClelland fourth. The final heat race was taken by local veteran Lanny Carpenter with Paul Solomon second, Curtis Boyer third and Matt Close fourth. The top eight driver in passing points would redraw for their starting position in the main event. After the redraw Josh Fisher and Randy Hibbs would make up the front row.

For the 30 lap main event Fisher and Hibbs led the field to green and after two failed starts, the first yellow would see Chris Morgan and Randy Martin getting together in turn one and Martin would retire to the pit area. A second yellow for Harli White would regroup the field once more. Randy Hibbs would lead lap one with Fisher moving by to take the top spot on lap two. Fisher’s turn at the point would last until lap six when Jonathan Cornell would use the top shelf in turns three and four to take Jove rthe lead. Cornell would do battle with lapped traffic with Fisher closing and challenging until lap 22 when Kyle Bellm moved into second and began to reel in the fleet Cornell. At the checkered it was Cornell, Bellm, Fisher, Sean McClelland and Evan Martin rounding out the top five. Zach Chappell, Jay Russell, Harli White, Brandon Hanks and Lanny Carpenter would finish sixth through tenth. Martin, Chappell and Russell made impressive runs from the back of the starting grid as the qualified through the B Main event. Russell was the winner of the B with Martin, Chappell and Corey Nelson also transferring.

The largest field of 600cc Micro Sprints ever at Double X was on hand with 27 cars starting the main event. Scott Hathman of Columbia led the event from the drop of the green to take the victory but was pressured by several drivers through out the duration. Ryan Marsch was pressuring Hathman until a restart after a red flag on lap 15. At the checkered Hathman was followed by Dwayne Benson, Quinton Benson, Jordan Howell, and Marsch completing the top five. Sixth was Nick Schaefer, seventh went to Brian Lunsford, Dean Hathman was eighth, Ayrton Gennetten ninth and Kyle Schlotz was tenth. Heat races were won by Schlotz, Scott Hathman, Dwayne Benson and Marsch.

The Street Stock class put on an entertaining race with Derek Henson only leading one lap but it was the one that counted the most as he led the field under the checkered. Following Henson to the stripe was Dale Berry, John Clancy, Curt Turpin and Harlan Dowell. Heat races were won by D. Henson and Chris Dunham.

Will Register was finally able to bag a victory in the Hobby Stock division this season as he out dueled Gage Wineland for the victory. Kevin Prall was third Chuck Coffey fourth and AJ Wirts completed the top five.

Double X will anchor the end of the ASCS Warrior Red White and Blue tour with racing action again on Sunday night. Street Stock, Hobby Stock and 600cc Micro Sprints will also be on the card to wrap up the weekend. The parking lot will open early for tailgating or you may wish to participate in the inaugural “Turn 1 Up and Coming Young Driver” Washer Board Tournament in memory of Cory Weirman.
