tri-state-speedway     Haubstadt, IN – July 6, 2014 –  Billy Moyer drove to victory Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway in the UMP Dirt Car Late Model Summer Nationals event.  Moyer took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led the entire 40 lap event.  He turned in a flawless performance.  Moyer’s race car is sponsored by Henderson Motorsports and Banner.

Thirty-two competitors from America’s most enduring and demanding series, often cited as the Hell Tour, were on hand to compete for the

night’s top prize of $5,000.       One of those was NASCAR driver

Austin Dillon.  Dillon flew in from Daytona  just in time for hot laps and then split his time between doing interviews, signing autographs for fans, and racing.

Dillon provided the competitive boost that kept the runner-up position in question lap after lap.  Tanner English lost the spot to Randy Korte.  Korte then had both English and Dillon looking for a way to pass him. English spun down low in turn one with just 4 laps to go.  With the restart Dillon passed Korte to resolve the battle for second.  Bobby Pierce was running hard using an extremely high line around the oval that would produce a fourth place finish.

Summer Nationals points leader Ryan Unsicker was fifth.

The second five included Indiana driver Kent Robinson, Jason Feger, Brandon Sheppard, Shannon Babb, and Brian Shirley.  This year’s field of late models was one of the strongest to compete at Haubstadt in recent years.  Nine of the top ten in Summer Nationals points were present.

Heat races victories belonged to Curtis Roberts, Billy Moyer, Tanner English, and Jason Feger.  Randy Korte had set the overall fast time during qualifying with a mark of 14.476 seconds.  Brian Shirley won the B Main.

The UMP Open Wheel Modifieds ran for $1,000 to win.  Their feature was part of the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Summer Nationals.

Interest in the event produced a field of 45 entries looking for one of 22 feature starting spots.  Zach Fair had the overall fast time during group qualifying with a lap of 15.449 seconds.

Jacob Poel of Spring Lake, Michigan, won the 25 lap modified feature in his Gilboes sponsored dirt car.  He was running second to Mike Harrison when Harrison darted into the infield with his car coming to a sudden stop.  Poel then lead the final eight laps.  He became one of a short list of drivers to win a feature at Tri-State Speedway on their very first visit.  The traveling driver has compiled 19 victories so far this season.

Tyler Nicely finished a close second and was the last to make an alongside challenge for the lead with just a lap to go.  Zach Fair was third.  Trent Young and Stephen Schnapf rounded out the top five.

The four preliminary heat races were won by Mike Harrison, Jacob Poel, Stephen Schnapf, and Tyler Nicely.  Tim Lewis Jr. won the action packed, caution filled C Main to transfer to the B.  In the B he put together a run that took him up to second before dropping back to fourth.  Everett Bradham won the B Main.

Tri-State Speedway will be hosting the finale for Indiana Sprint Week.  That event is next on the track’s schedule.  The USAC Sprint Cars will be in action that night along with the UMP Modifieds.  The date is July 19th which is on a Saturday.  Racing begins at 7:30 P.M.

C.D.T. as usual.
