American Modified SeriesNebo, KY- July 12, 2014- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series returned to action on Saturday evening at Western Kentucky Speedway in Nebo, KY for its first event of July and the first ever series trip to the track and former series champion Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY would score a $5,000 payday at the track only about thirty minutes from his home aboard the Kelsey Kissinger owned KBC Graphics/Garvin Matthews Roofing/Young’s Well Service/Kissinger’s Red Angus/JPM Powersports/Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body/Emma’s Place sponsored #10y Bandit Race Car powered by a SPEC Race Engine.

The victory was worth $5,000 for Young and would be his fourth career series victory. The win by the 2012 series champion also made the second-generation racer the sixth different winner with the tour through the first ten events of the 2014 season.

After a multi-car incident at the initial start of the race, Trent Young would take the race lead and only be slowed early on by a lap 7 caution for a slowed David McWilliams in turn two. The restart would see Young again pull away from the field and start working slower traffic on lap 14, while Tyler Nicely and Jacob Poel would battle for the runner-up position. As Young was to begin lapping a larger group of slower traffic, sixth place running Devin Gilpin would slow in turn one with a flat right rear tire to draw a caution flag. The restart would see business pick up at the point as the lead trio of Young, Nicely, and Poel would get three wide exiting turn four to complete lap 23, with the pair of Nicely and Poel making contact down the frontchute, resulting in Nicely’s mount rolling to a stop in turn two with damage and done for the night. The rest of the race would see Young never challenged on his way to leading all 40 laps of the race, with seventh starting Poel driving home in the runner-up position. Jeff Curl would start 17th, but would nip Matt Cooper at the checkered flag to take the third position to earn the hard charger of the race award, while Josh Harris would complete the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the Western Kentucky Speedway A-Main would be 13th starting Brian Shaw, Zach Fair, 14th starting Dustin Beck, polesitter Darin Obenchain, and Dave Beck. The 40 lap, $5,000 to win event would be slowed by four caution periods.

In preliminary action, Darin Obenchain would be the Quick Car Racing Product top qualifier among a field of 33 entries at 17.017 seconds to establish a new track record. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Obenchain, while Zach Fair scored the win in Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Trent Young, with Matt Cooper winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. Jeff Curl and Roy Bruce, Jr. would win the Stealth Racewear B-Mains, while series provisional starting positions went to Ricky Tinch and Tyler Weiss.

The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will be on Saturday July 26 at Cedar Ridge Speedway in Morgantown, KY. The race will be the 2nd Annual Hope for Harlie Benefit event and will be 30 laps in distance and pay $1,500 to win and $200 to start.
