DIRTcar                MACON, Ill. – Stock car racing will rev up the Christian County Fair for the first time in decades when the Larry’s Service Center Triple 25’s hit the quarter-mile fairgrounds dirt track in Taylorville on Thursday, July 24 during the Christian County Fair. Midwest Big Ten Series Street Stocks, Sportsman and Hornets will each hold 25-lap features as the racers chase after big prize money in racing presented by Track Enterprises and the staff at Macon Speedway.

The three competitive divisions are excited to headline the show, so the drivers won’t hold anything back while racing for the victory in front of the big fair crowd in a pair of 25-lappers. Sportsman race for $800 to win while the Street Stocks go for a $500 first-place prize and the Hornets pay $200 to win.

“I’m excited to bring the Big Ten Street Stocks, Sportsman and Hornets to the Christian County Fair,’’ said Bob Sargent, the Macon Speedway promoter and Track Enterprises president. “The Street Stocks will be in the midst of the intense Big Ten Series for a huge prize fund. The Hornets and Sportsman drivers are also anxious to race on a different track, so we expect the pits to overflow with fast cars and talented drivers.’’

Dennis Vandermeersch of Springfield held off Macon Speedway points leader Nick Macklin of Argenta to win the Sportsman Topless 40 at the high-banked fifth-mile oval on July 12 in one of the season’s premier races for the class. In Big Ten Street Stocks, Bobby Beiler of Blue Mound carries a slim lead over Terry Reed of Decatur. John Bright Jr. of Decatur leads the Outlaw Hornets points at Macon Speedway, but Jeremy Reed of Decatur is back from a broken arm and already back in victory lane. With the races held on a Thursday night, drivers from several tracks are expected to compete.

The Street Stocks race is part of the Big Ten Series, a 10-event campaign with races also at Macon (Ill.) Speedway, Lincoln (Ill.) Speedway and Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway as drivers battle for a $3,000 prize fund. The Street Stock loyalty promotion includes larger payouts to the feature winner. At the end of the 10-race series, driver points accumulated will determine the Midwest Big Ten Series champion. The overall champ earns $1,000, and the payouts continue through the top 10.

Tickets to Larry’s Service Center Triple 25’s are $10 for reserved seating and $8 for general admission. Pit passes are $30 for adults and $15 for children 11-under. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7. For more information, call 217-764-3200 or go online to maconracing.com.
