Lucas Cattle Company ULMA drivers took part in four main events at three different tracks last weekend with Chris Cox, Payton Looney, Dwight Niehoff, and Kenny Mudd all claiming victories.

Action began Friday at Callaway Raceway where drivers competed in two main events, including the previous week’s makeup event due to damage to the turn four fence. Fifteen drivers competed throughout the night, which began with the makeup feature event where Lockwood, Missouri driver Dwight Niehoff rolled to his third win of the year over teammate Payton Looney, Gage Wineland, Vance Wilson and Chris Lapp.

After finishing second in the makeup feature, former Callaway Raceway track champion Payton Looney improved one position to claim his second win of the year. Four-time Callaway winner Vance Wilson of Quincy, Illinois, advanced from fifth to claim the runner-up spot behind Looney. New ULMA point’s leader Dwight Niehoff drove from 14th on the grid to claim third while Zeke Langley and Gage Wineland rounded out the top vice. Completing the top ten were David Melloway, Lane Ehlert, Chris Lapp, Todd McCoin, and Cody Holtcamp.

Just four nights of action remain at Callaway Raceway this season. For more information, visit the track online at www.callawayraceways.com or call 573-592-7795 or 573-642-6580 for details. Gates open at 5:00 with Hot Laps at 7, and racing at 7:30.

At Randolph County Raceway (RCR) in Moberly, Missouri ten drivers made their way to the track for competition. In the lone heat race of the night, Kenny Mudd bested Vance Wilson, and Chris Lapp to set the stage for the main event. Mudd, a previous winner at the track earned the pole position for the featured race of the night.

Mudd, of Winfield, Missouri was not to be denied in the main event as he claimed his second straight win at RCR over Wilson, who posted his second straight runner-up finish of the weekend. Chris Lapp finished third with Zeke Langley and Ryan Petersheim rounding out the top five. David Melloway, Ashlee Lancaster, Trent Everhart, Larry Winn, and Rick Kimberling filled out the top ten. Racing at RCR resumes this Saturday, for more information, visit www.randolphcountyraceway.com or call the track Phone at 660-833-1727. Five weeks remain at the speedway.

Drivers returned to Wheatland, Missouri for competition at Lucas Oil Speedway with twenty drivers signed in for the evening. Jon Binning, Lane Ehlert, and Ethan Young claimed heat race wins among the strong field on hand. For the main event, sixth-starting Chris Cox of Jefferson City, Missouri immediately began charging to the front of the field with Walnut Grove, Missouri’s Jeremy Kelley following Cox to the front from his seventh starting position.

Pole-sitter Ethan Young slipped back early along with Ehlert and Larry Jones in the main event as they were unable to run at the front of the field. Meanwhile, outside pole-sitter Jon Binning of Warrensburg, Missouri paced the field for the first 19 laps of the 25 ran in the special $1,000-to-win event. Later in the race, Binning’s drive for the win was sidetracked by a fading right-rear tire.

From this point on, Binning began to slip back in the field as Cox drove around him bringing Kelley with him in the process. Late in the race Cox, Kelley, and Williams fought hard for the victory, which ultimately went to Chris Cox, who scored his first-ever ULMA Late Model main event after years and years of trying. Kelley, in his return to competition after an extended layoff period would up second. Williams came away with third with Cordray scored in fourth over Binning, who slipped to fifth. Rounding out the top ten were J.D. Hubert, Payton Looney, Ethan Young, Justin Russell, and R.D. Peterson.

Weekly competition resumes this weekend at the speedway as the second half of the season unfolds with five more opportunities for ULMA competitors to earn championship points. Visit www.lucasoilspeedway.com for information or call the track hotline at (417) 282-5984.
