kentucky-lake-motor-speedwayCALVERT CITY, Kentucky – Wet weather canceled a scheduled open house and open practice, but Kentucky Lake Motor Speedway will try to stage its first race of the season this Saturday.

Forecasts call for rain again this week, but if conditions are suitable, drivers in five classes of racecars will compete in the program Saturday, with Late Model, Modified, Crate, Stock Car and Pure Stock divisions, with warm-up laps beginning at 4 p.m., followed by time trials and racing.

Admission prices are unchanged from last year, with grandstand seats priced at $15 for adults with seniors and military members admitted for $12 and children 10 and under free. Pit admission is $35 for crew members and $50 for driver and car.

The past weekend’s cancellation marks the second time an open practice session has been lost to wet conditions. The original date of March 14, along with races that were slated to be held last month, were wiped out.

For the second year in a row, the Bluegrass Nationals, a special event, has been pushed back and revamped. This year’s Nationals will feature the MARS Late Model Series and American Modified Series competing in a two-night program Friday and Saturday, May 15-16. Crate, Stock Car and Pure Stock races will also be on the program both nights.

The event was set for March 20-21 and was to feature the World of Outlaws Late Model Series as its headline division.

This weekend’s season opener will be followed by programs on April 18 and April 25. No racing is scheduled for May 2, because of a conflicting event at Paducah International Raceway.

Action will resume at KLMS on May 9.
