(Warrensburg, MO) The hot weather returned to the west-central Missouri area on Saturday matching the racing action on Pepsi Night at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS). Race fans were pleased to see some of their favorite drivers repeat in victory lane this weekend. Jason Ryun from Kansas City captured his fourth win in Pure Stocks while Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove drove his car into the winner’s circle for the seventh time this year in B-Mod action. Brett Wood from Warrensburg claimed his sixth Street Stock win of the year and Terry Schultz of Sedalia returned to victory lane for a third time this year in USRA action.

Pure Stocks started off the heat racing action with Darrin Christy grabbing the first heat win with Lee Scott and Roger Detherage close behind. In heat two, Jason Ryun passed the line just ahead of Jeremiah Wilson and Derek Williams.

When the Pure Stocks lined up for their feature event Ryun quickly maneuvered his car into the early lead with Christy close behind. Ryun was dominant on this night as he kept Christy and Detherage behind him all night to claim another main event. Current Pure Stock point’s leader Jeremiah Wilson had to retire early with a flat tire on lap six after several cars tangled in turn two. Ryun hung on in the end with his fourth feature win this year with Christy in second. Detherage moved up later in the race into third, Leroy Morrison was fourth with Amanda Sammons rounding out the top five.

A field of 21 B-Mod drivers competed in three heat races to establish the starting grid for their weekly feature. Jacob Ebert easily grabbed heat one over Josh Barnes and Kaleb Bray. Heat two had Troy Carlyle taking the win over Jake Richards and Jason Billups. The final heat race saw Cody Frazon advance to the checkers in front of Dallas White and Nic Bennett.

For the main event, Carlyle grabbed the early lead as he rolled out of turn two ahead of Ebert and Frazon. Unfortunately, multiple cautions detracted from this week’s B-mod feature. Carlyle led the early portions of the race until he spun in turn one. Ebert then inherited the lead and hung on throughout several more cautions. Bennett also provided some pressure but Ebert ultimately claimed his seventh victory this year.

Charlie Ebert, his Father and former CMS modified track champion, gave him a big hug on the track in victory lane as they celebrated his win. Bennett looked good again this week in second coming on strong late in the race. Jason Billups placed third; Jake Richards who provided some early challenges for the lead was fourth. Brett Wood came from eleventh to finish fifth and Carlyle came back up to sixth after his spin in turn two.

Street Stock drivers had their opportunity to win a feature and make up some points on leader Brett Wood during their weekly racing events with 14 drivers on hand. Wood claimed the opening heat race over Troy Turley and Gary Akers while Dean Wille drove to victory in heat two ahead of Jeremiah Wilson and Brian Inlow.

At CMS the Street Stock competition is always entertaining and this night was no different as early leader Dean Wille was pursued by Wood and Turley throughout the early stages of the race. Wille eventually tangled with Brian Inlow in turn two bringing out a caution that was costly to the leader with officials placing him tail back for the restart after the contact with Inlow.

With Wille on the tail of the field for the restart, Wood inherited the lead and never looked back as he entered victory lane for the sixth time this year. Turley hung on for another solid second, Clayton Campbell was third, Gary Akers moved up into the fourth spot just ahead of Chad Eickleberry in fifth and a rebounding Wille in fifth position at the line.

USRA Modifieds were fresh off their Tom Wilson Memorial Bowl Fourth of July events from last week with a 25-car field. Preliminary heat race winners included Terry Schultz on top in heat one with Brian Johnson and Justin Johnson in tow. Gunner Martin won in convincing fashion in a close finish in heat two ahead of Tim Karrick and Nick Pence. The third heat of the night went to Jim Moody in front of Lewis Jackson and Danny Scrogham. The final heat of the night had Mark Schafman ahead of Mickey Burrell and Mike Eisenhut.

USRA Modified drivers entered the track competing for the $1,000-to-win weekly racing event with their 25-lap main event. Just like last week, pole position went to Gunner Martin based on heat race passing points and he led the field for several restarts early. The cautions caused several top cars to exit the track including Jim Moody, Brian Johnson, Aaron Marrant and Nick Pence who slowly turned over in turn four; he was uninjured in the mishap.

The feature race drivers finally settled in to a rhythm and clicked off laps at a blistering pace with Schultz asserting himself up front along with Edwardsville, Kansas driver Mark Schafman. Schafman actually grabbed the lead early on until Schultz took control of the race. Schultz commanded the race for the remaining laps as Karrick and Schafman battled for the second and third spots.

As flagman Hershel Thompson’s final double checkers of the night flew over the field, Schultz claimed his third CMS modified victory of the year. Karrick made a late-race move into second ahead of Schafman who hung on for third, Martin finished a solid fourth, Matt Johnson in his new GRT modified was fifth while Scrogham rounded out the top six.

Next weekend includes weekly racing on 610 Sports Radio Race Night at Central Missouri Speedway. USRA Modifieds, USRA B-Mods, Street Stocks, and Pure Stocks will all be on hand for the race program competing for championship points for the 2015 track championships.
