Another week of Lucas Cattle Company ULMA Late Model racing is in the history books as drivers competed in two events last weekend. Friday’s event at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri saw a repeat winner claim the top prize as current Rookie of the Year leader Dustin Hodges bagged his second-consecutive win at the track. On Saturday, Payton Looney of Republic, Missouri added to his championship-seeking season by claiming his sixth ULMA win of the year and third of the year at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

At Callaway Raceway on Friday evening, Dustin Hodges collected his second-straight victory in front of a home-town crowd. Hodges is currently well in command of the current Hoosier Tire Midwest Rookie of the Year Standings and has firmly planted himself inside the top five of the overall ULMA standings. Todd McCoin continued his recent string of strong runs at Callaway coming home in second behind Hodges with Chris Cox in third, Jon Melloway fourth, and a returning Phil Edmondson in fifth. Completing the top ten were Jason Bodenhamer, John Ketterer, David Miller, and Wesley Briggs.

Just two more Friday events are planned at Callaway Raceway for the 2015 season counting this Friday’s action for ULMA drivers to earn championship points. Visit the track online at www.callawayraceways.com. The raceway is located at 7419 County Road 405 in Fulton, Missouri. Call 573-592-7795 or 573-642-6580 for race day information.

At Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, a large fielf of 26 drivers competed in three heat races with Payton Looney, John O’Neil, and Jon Binning claiming heat race victories to setup the main event lineup. From the latest speedway press release, “Payton Looney wasted little time as he charged to the lead from his outside front row starting spot and never looked back scoring the win.” Larry Jones recorded his best finish of the year in second with Ethan Young also turning in a solid performance in third. Justin Russell was fourth with Chris Cox finishing fifth. Phil Edmondson, J.D. Hubert, Bobby Penney, Harlen Kennedy, and Jon Melloway rounded out the top ten.

ULMA drivers return to Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday, August 22 when weekly racing contintues at the speedway for Fan Appreciation Night. For additional information and remaining regular race season schedule be sure to visit the track’s website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Late Models had the week off at Randolph County Raceway (RCR) last Saturday but are scheduled to return this Saturday, August 8th for another round of weekly championship racing in all divisions. RCR is located at 4081 off of US-24 in Moberly, Missouri. The Track Phone number is 660-833-1727. Visit the track online at www.randolphcountyraceway.com for additional information.

ULMA continues to work with Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas for a possible late-addition to the schedule for a points race at the track. The proposal has been turned in to speedway officials and ULMA is awaiting word on whether the planned event is a go. In order to give drivers enough preparation time or to ask for a vacation day or to leave work early on a Friday, the association requested a date later in September that would work best for both the drivers, the track, and the association.

Drivers that would like to compete at Lakeside Speedway need to contact ULMA via message through their Facebook page, or by using the information that was sent to them via email, or simply by emailing unitedlatemodelassociation@hotmail.com and sharing their thoughts on the proposed race.

After Payton Looney’s latest victory the standings are getting tighter at the top. Looney has now amassed 12 starts on the year, if he runs at least three more events the points could end up changing dramatically when he hits the 15-starts threshold. However, Melloway, McCoin, Cox, and Hodges will likely have something to say about that as they try to maintain their solid season performances for the remainder of the season by adding on to the win column to stay in contention for the title.
