Lucas Oil SpeedwayWheatland, MO (November 9th, 2015) – The Lodge at Old Kinderhook in Camdenton, Missouri became home to over 200 drivers, crew members, sponsors, family and friends on Saturday night as the Annual Lucas Oil Speedway Champions Banquet took place. Lucas Oil Speedway officially crowned the 2015 Season Champions in each of the four Budweiser Weekly Racing Series Classes.

Wheatland native, Mike Striegel, scored his first Lucas Oil Speedway Season Championship in the USRA B-Mods while Kenny Carroll scored his second overall class championship in the Carson’s Corner NAPA Factory Stocks. Jeff Cutshaw secured his second consecutive championship by showcasing his talents all year long yet again in the Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds. Justin Russell came out on top in 2015 as he was deemed champion in the ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models.

As drivers and their families and friends entered the banquet room, a social hour was underway which gave all in attendance a chance to catch up with friends and reflect on the 2015 season. A stunning highlight video showcasing the best racing of the season produced by Robert Claunch from RCR designs played on the big screens within the banquet hall. Social hour was followed by a touching invocation by Allen Perkins of Raceway Ministries. Dinner was served promptly at 7pm. The Lodge at Old Kinderhook went above and beyond as they served a delicious Chicken and Steak Duet with crisp green beans and mashed potatoes.

Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager Dan Robinson opened up the formal portion of the awards banquet with a welcome and thank you to all those that make each season possible. Robinson gave some quick stats to give everyone perspective on how their weekly track keeps growing each year. Lucas Oil Speedway produced record car counts, averaging 115 cars weekly, which is up from 109 in 2015. The total attendance through the gates in 2015 was 99,652, which is up from 97,000 in 2014 and 38,000 in 2009!

Robinson announced that the payout for all four weekly classes would increase in 2016. It was announced that the Factory Stocks purse will rise to $400 to win, $300 for second, $200 for third. B-Mods will provide the same; $400 to win, $300 for second, $200 for third. USRA Modifieds will now be $600 to win, $500 for second, $400 for third. ULMA Late Models will provide $700 to win, $600 for second, $500 for third. All classes will see additional increases throughout the field. Robinson noted that the growing success supported this decision and the loyal drivers certainly deserved it.

The first class to receive awards was the USRA B-Mods as the Top-10 in points were honored. Champion Mike Striegel, received his championship hardware and an outstanding package of cash and contingency awards. Striegel gave an emotional speech, which ended by presenting his son, Tanner Calhoun, with the Crew Chief of the Year Award and thanking Tanner for all of his hard work and contribution to his race program. Runner up in the B-Mods was multi-time champion Kris Jackson. 2015 USRA National Champion, Andy Bryant, took third followed by Tyler Brown and Jim Cihy in fourth and fifth. Sixth through tenth began with Logan Martin, followed by Justin Hunt, Robb Ewing, Robert Heydenreich, and young Kaeden Cornell.
Bolivar, Missouri’s Jeff Cutshaw outlasted a stellar field of Pitts Homes USRA Modified competitors to score his second consecutive Lucas Oil Speedway Championship. Racing veterans such as Jason Russell, Eric Turner, and Jason Pursley took home honors in second through fifth respectively. Young and successful Logan Martin rounded out the top five after capturing several wins on the season. John Allen, Chase Jones, Terry Schultz, Nathan Vaughn, and Chase Domer rounded out the top-10.

The third class of the evening to be recognized was the ALPS Food Store ULMA Late Models as a consistent Justin Russell quietly secured the top spot at the conclusion of the season. Payton Looney dominated all season long but fell just short of the top spot. Todd McCoin, Larry Jones, and Jon Binning rounded out the top-5. Long time LOS supporter, Tommy Cordray ended his season in the sixth spot followed by Jonathan Melloway, Chris Cox, Lane Ehlert, and R.D. Peterson.

The final class of the evening to be recognized was the Carson’s Corner NAPA Auto Parts Factory Stocks. Camdenton’s own Kenny Carroll dominated the class from start to finish to cap off a dream season and position himself to be crowned champion. The factory stocks held some of the best competition of the season with a thriller every night. Chip Shaddox, Johnny Coats, Bobby Barnett, and David Hendrix were all steady contenders but came up short of the top spot. They settled for second trough fifth respectively. Sixth through tenth held Steve Beach, Toby Ott, Darrin Crisler, Ted Welschmeyer, and Brian Eckhoff.

In a unique twist to this season’s award banquet, the final prizes to be awarded included a brand new Harley-Davidson Street® 750 Motorcycle donated by Lawless H-D in Scott City, Missouri and the Kawasaki Brute Force 300 ATV donated by Hobbytime Motorsports in Bolivar. LOS GM Dan Robinson took to the stage and first provided some background on how the contest came about. With 38 nervous drivers anxiously waiting, Jon Melloway’s name was called as the winner of the ATV as he excitedly worked his way to stage to check out his new toy. The new Harley was next and it was long time modified racer and Skyline School Prinicipal Jason Pursley scoring himself an early Christmas present. At last report, Jason has several new tattoos, a full assortment of leather riding apparel and reservations at Sturgis for 2016.

Finally, the end of arguably the best LOS banquet yet, renowned comedian Joe Marlotti kept spirits light and many entertained after the completion of formal awards ceremony. Record attendance was a high note of the 2015 banquet as many gathered and couldn’t wait to talk about the bigger and better things coming in 2016.
