Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (January 9, 2016) – Don O’Neal kicked of USA Raceway’s Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout presented by Black Diamond-Club 29 Race Cars by racing to victory lane over a stellar field of 60 Super Late Model competitors in Saturday night’s 30-lap main event.

With the $5,000 triumph aboard the Clint Bowyer Motorsports Peak Antifreeze/Crawford Supply No. 5 Club 29 Race Cars entry, “The Real Deal” put himself in place for a potential $250,000 bonus that goes to the driver that can win all six feature events.

“It’s not gonna be easy for sure, but we got one down anyway,” the Martinsvile, IN, racer said of the potential bonus in victory lane.

While O’Neal topped the Super Late Model portion of the Wild West Shootout opener, Cade Dillard bested the Modifieds and Ron Schreiner topped the X-Modifieds as a total 140 cars filled the USA Raceway pit area.

In the Super Late Model main event, O’Neal battled past Shane Clanton at the midway point and slipped away over the final rounds to secure the win ahead of Steve Francis with Darrell Lanigan, Billy Moyer and Jonathan Davenport rounding out the top five.

“I had to be up on the wheel out there,” O’Neal commented.

Francis took advantage of a lap 19 restart to take second away from Clanton but never mount a serious charge on the leader. After bypassing the scales following an apparent heat race win, Davenport rallied from the tail of a “B” Main and then charged from 19th round out the top five.

In Barnett Harley-Davidson Modifieds presented by MVT action, Many, Louisiana’s Cade Dillard battled past Rodney Sanders for the lead just past the midway point and led the rest of the way to take victory honors.

“I messed up a little on about the second lap and smoke the wall there in turn two, I thought we were done,” Dillard explained afterward. “I was just riding, hoping to get a top five, then we started running through the ruts and made up some ground.
Dillard was chased to the stripe by Sanders with Darron Fuqua, Phillip Houston and Fito Gallardo rounding out the top five

Tucson’s Ron Schreiner took the lead away from Brian Clark nine laps into the 20-lap Border International and RealTruck.com X-Mods presented by Polar Industries main event and then withstood a late rally from 19th-starter Tyler Peterson to capture the victory.

Schriever took the checkered flag as Peterson went up in smoke, with Chad Horst taking advantage to capture second with Joey Rowell, A.J. Huebner and James Brinkley in the top five.

The Wild West Shootout continues at USA Raceway on Sunday with racing action set to go green at 5:00 p.m. with ensuing rounds to follow on Wednesday, January 13, and then Friday through Sunday, January 15-17.

A $5,000 winner’s share is up for grabs through the opening five nights of competition with AR Bodies raising the stakes of the January 17 finale to $11,000-to-win.

Single day tickets are just $20 for each of the first five nights and $22 for the Wild West Shootout finale on Sunday, January 17.

Advance tickets may be purchased online at http://raceusaraceway.com/events/10th-annual-wild-west-shootout-2/ or by calling the USA Raceway office at 520-664-2074.
