Hey Race Fans! Here’s your St. Francois County Raceway AUTO PLAZA GROUP Race Recap for Saturday, April 9th, 2016!
The air was cool but the racing was HOT! Several weekend cancelations made for slim pickings if you’re a dirt track fan in the Midwest. Some due to rain, some due to cold temps. Down here in St. Francois County, we throw on our long johns, grab our carharrts, and head to the race track for some fun!

These cancelations of local tracks and traveling series’ resulted in a good field of cars here at The Bullring! Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, OK said that we were the only track racing 410 Sprint Cars within 8 hours of his house, so he loaded up and came to race! Brady wasn’t the only one though. Bryan Clauson, a man who has wheeled just about everything with tires on it, is on his Race for 200 Tour, and he pulled into The Bullring to get one step closer to that 200, and to also check out the new surface in preparation for the upcoming NSL Shows later in the year. ASCS National Tour driver Brad Loyet came down and picked up his 2nd win in as many attempts, holding off a very hard last lap charge from Clauson. More on that in a minute…

In the Super Street division, Travis Goodman (76) got his first Heat Win of the season, edging out last weeks feature winner David Baker(00) who finished 2nd, and Robert Hicks(32) who finished 3rd. Marshall Yount(45) won an exciting battle in Heat 2 over Joe Merritt(71) and Mike Hurst(81H). Baker fired back in the Feature, going to Victory Lane for the 2nd week in a row. He was followed by Merritt, Goodman, Hurst, and Yount.

Track closures in the area brought a few other Modifieds to do battle on the new ¼ mile red clay. In the A-Mod division, last weeks feature winner Greg Swaringim(25S) held off a hard charge to win the first Heat race over Brent Thompson(18) and Billy Smith(14). Tim Nash(7) carried the checkers in Heat 2, beating Matt Dotson(45) and Danny Resinger(15) to the line. Dotson fired back, picking up the dash win and earning himself the #1 Starting Spot for the A-Main. With Billy Smith starting on his outside, and a stacked field behind them, the green flag flew and 20 laps of battle ensued. Smith came out on top and “Parked It” in the winners circle, with Dotson finishing 2nd, Thompson 3rd, Swaringim 4th, and Dave Armstrong(34) finishing 5th.

27 410 Winged Sprint Cars came to do battle for the $2,000 to win! These local guys are always tough, and the “outsiders” know it. Joey Montgomery(12X) picked up the win in Heat Race #1 over Bryan Clauson(17W) and Dustin Adams(3). Tommy Worley(97) picked up the win in Heat 2 over Brad Loyet(o5) and Jimmy Hurley(35). “The Tank” Jimmy Bridgeman won Heat 3 over Kasey Burch(20) and Scottie Gretzmacher(16G). Heat 4 went to Kent Buckley(87), who was followed by Robbie Standridge(22) and Kevin Petty(72). Bridgeman won the Dash over Loyet, Buckley, Worley, Clauson, J. Montgomery, Standridge, and Burch. Brady Bacon(99) found himself in the Semi, after a spin in Heat 1, and fought his way back up to 5th, just missing a transfer position. Not this time around. Bacon picked up the win in the Semi over Joe B Miller(7C), Joey Boyd(67) and Terry Babb(8D). Bacon made a hard charge from the 17th starting position in the A-Main, but wasn’t quite enough. Picking up 10 spots and finishing 7th, he definitely figured out the way around The Bullring. It was Brad Loyet who picked up the Win, holding off a final hard charge from Clauson, who finished 2nd. They were followed by Hurley, Bridgeman, J. Montgomery, Worley, and Bacon.

In the B-Mod division, Dusty Homan(10) picked up the Heat 1 Win over Rudy Slade(21R) and Scott Jarrett(4M). Chuck Goodman(327) picked up the checkers in Heat 2 over Jeremy Welborn(27W) and Jim Hartzell(67). Kodi Savage(13) won Heat 3 over Shane Blair(1) and Kyle Jarrett(10X). Homan parked his #10 car in victory lane, winning the Feature over K. Savage, Blair, Goodman, and Darryll Dickerson(44).
