Haubstadt, IN – April 16, 2016 – Chase Stockon, now of Haubstadt, IN, was victorious in the 30 lap main event for sprint cars at Tri-State Speedway Saturday night. It was the season opener for the quarter mile racing facility. The “Spring Showdown” has become an annual match-up for drivers competing with USAC and those participating with MSCS. Twenty five competitors were on hand for the contest.

The night’s feature victory was worth $5,000. Stockon took the lead on lap 12 and turned in a flawless performance to maintain that lead.
Fast qualifier Kyle Cummins stayed in hot pursuit but would finish as the runner-up. Carson Short took third place honors.

Chase Stockon was piloting the TBI Racing Superior Tank and Trailer sponsored DRC powered by Fisher. “It feels great to win one close to home. This place has always been a home track to me.” It was here that he won the final MSCS feature last season. “Tonight this thing was on a rail.” The ride took him to his tenth MSCS career victory and he is now fifth on the all time list in MSCS wins!

C.J. Leary lead the first lap in the Dutcher 17GP. Thomas Meseraull took the lead on lap two in the Amati 66. The two drivers had started on the front row. Meseraull led another 9 laps. Stockon was already challenging for the top spot by lap 5.

Chad Boespflug and C.J. Leary rounded out the top five for the feature. Brady Bacon was sixth followed by Robert Ballou, Brady Short, Thomas Meseraull, and Kent Schmidt. Dakota Jackson received the Wilwood Tuff Brakes Award for his eleventh place finish.

Robert Ballou was the MSCS Keizer Aluminum Wheels Hard Charger of the Race. He had started sixteenth in a back-up car and moved up 9 spots which was almost twice as many positions as any other driver gained in the 22 car field. Ballou was the MSCS Hard Charger of the Year last season. It was a “Never give up” performance!

The Rod Supply heat race winners were Max McGhee, Kent Schmidt, and Chase Stockon. McGhee’s feature effort ended early with a smoking engine. Brady Short won the 12 lap semi feature. The results from that event transferred the top 7 finishers to the feature line-up.
No provisional starting spots were needed by drivers of either organization.

MSCS will race next on April 30 and then again May 1. The first race of the weekend will be at Tri-State Speedway on a Saturday evening.
It will be the inaugural “Midwest Madness” event which is a new addition to the track’s schedule. Sunday the action moves to the Terre Haute Action Track for the annual MSCS “Spring Fling.”

KISSINGER TOPS MODIFIEDS

Levi Kissinger of Mt. Vernon, IN, won the hotly contested UMP Open Wheel Modified feature. The 25 lap season opening event played out in interesting phases. Matt Lane grabbed the early lead and was stretching it out with a fast car when he spun in turn two. That was on lap 18. That realigned the field under the caution.

A close three way battle soon developed between new leader Zach Fair, Mark Lamont, and Levi Kissinger. Contact on the front stretch sent Lamont’s car spinning sideways. With only 3 laps left Lamont headed to the pit area. Kissinger passed Fair after that final restart.
Zach Fair finished second ahead of Clay Lane, Matt Lane, and Josh Harris. Matt Lane was making substantial progress in just 7 laps after having restarted on the tail.

Kissinger described the action to the fans from victory lane. “It was tight racing. We were all layered. The competition here is tougher than ever. I had to drive the wheels off the last 5 to 7 laps to make something happen!”

The four heat races were won in succession by Matt Lane, Levi Kissinger, Mark Lamont, and former NASCAR competitor Kenny Schrader.
Willie Madison won the B Main. A large field of 31 cars participated. The UMP modifieds will appear again April 30th along with the addition of the MMSA Mini-Sprints.
