American-Modified-SeriesBulls Gap, TN (July 1, 2016)- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series would make its first ever visit to Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN as part of the track’s 4th Annual Scott Sexton Memorial on Friday evening and Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY would score his second series win of the season and claim the $2,000 payday. The win for Young would come in the seat of the Snap-On Tools/Mitchell Tools and Motorsports/Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body/R&S Equipment/Emma’s Place/Young’s Well Service sponsored #10Y Bandit Race Car, Stanton Race Engines powered mount.

Matt Cooper would take the early lead in the event and after a pair of early cautions would see his good run when mechanical issues forced him pitside, giving the lead to Mark Lamont. Lamont would hold the top spot as the third caution of the race waved on lap 10 for Logan Hickey, however it would be the caution for Robert Poole on lap 14 that would see the action pick up. The restart would see Lamont keep the lead, with Nick Stroupe, Don Adams, Josh Harris, and Trent Young in pursuit. Young would make a daring move on lap 15 to drive around both Adams and Harris for third and set his sights on second place Stroupe, taking the runner-up slot one circuit later on lap 16. Race leader Lamont would then become the focus of Young’s attention, with Young working past Lamont for the lead on lap 21. One final caution for a spin by Michael Lee on lap 25 would tighten the field back up one last time, however, Young would motor away from the pack to see the checkered flag first and claim the victory. Harris would work around Lamont in the late stages of the event to finish second, while Lamont would settle for the final podium finishing position in third. Lucas Lee would recover from a spin on lap 2 and charge to fourth, while Adams completed the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the Volunteer Speedway A-Main would be Jody Puckett, Wade Rookard, Brian Shaw, Dave Mitchell, Shon Flanary. The event would slowed by five caution periods.

In preliminary action, Shon Flanary was the Quick Car Racing Products top qualifier among 31 entries at 14.060 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Mark Lamont, while Cameron Marlar scored the win in Fast Shafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Matt Cooper, with Nick Stroupe winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. The Out-Pace Racing Products B-Mains went to Matt Henderson and Robert Poole. Series provisional starters were Brian Shaw and Colin Green.

The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will take place on Saturday July 2 at Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN, racing for $3,000 to win.
