Macon SpeedwayTaylors Battle For Checkered Flag At Macon Speedway

(Macon, IL) On Hall of Fame Driver Reunion Night, and in front of their father Dick Taylor, brothers Matt and Guy Taylor raced as well as they could with one thing in mind, the checkered flag. Matt Taylor looked to be the favorite in this 20-lap feature race, running the top side and doing it smoothly. Guy Taylor started to work at the bottom and the racecar caught on quickly and made a race of it all the way to the checkered flag. Matt looked like he was going to be able to hold off Guy until the fourth turn.  With the checkered flag waving in the air, the car slipped up allowing Guy to sneak in underneath and capture the win.

The night was full of close finishes. In the Street Stock feature, Kaleb Wood looked to take his first win of the season at Macon Speedway.  However, points leader Nick Justice was coming along strong and eventually took hold of the top position. Wood nearly nudged Justice coming to the checkered flag out of the fourth turn and raced clean to the finish for a second-place finish behind Justice. Wood said during the driver interview, “You earned that one.”

In the Billingsley Towing Modified feature, Curt Rhodes won his first Macon Speedway feature of the season as he got the lead from Thursday night’s feature winner Rodney Standerfer. With Rhodes looking to give Standerfer a ride for the win, a caution came out on lap 11 and slowed the action back down with Standerfer in front. When the green came back out, Standerfer took off and looked to hold on for his second win in three days. But instead, Rhodes went to the bottom and caught back up to the leader and would work to the top side and take the lead on the 17th lap. With three to go, Rhodes went the distance without challenge. His son, Zach Rhodes, finished third.

Tim Hancock is a perfect seven-for-seven in the B-Modified class. His entry number was the worst of any driver and started at the back of his heat, seventh place. Within the eight lap race, he caught up to the leader and would eventually win. That put him on the pole position for the 15-lap feature and he would win easily.

The night capped off with Tony Reed taking the Hornets feature. The points leader added to his lead with the checkered flag and feature winning trophy in his hand.

Next Saturday night features the Sportsman in a 40-lap feature race and they’ll go topless and race without their roof. Also on the slate are the Pro Late Models, Billingsley Towing Modifieds, Sportsman, Street Stocks, B-Modifieds and Hornets in a night sponsored by Miles Chevrolet.
