Wheatland, Missouri (July 23, 2016) – Jon Sheets turned the night’s featured event at Lucas Oil Speedway into a runaway, scoring a flag-to-flag victory in Saturday’s night’s ALPS Food Stores ULMA Late Model 25-lap feature victory.

Debuting a new car and driving a Late Model for the first time, Sheets grabbed the lead from his front-row starting position and never trailed in the caution-free race. The Nevada driver earned $1,000, in memory of Ron Jenkins and Charlie Dobson.

Other feature winners in a program presented by the National Wild Turkey Federation to Save the Hunt and Lucas Oil Racing TV included Kris Jackson (Ozark Golf Cars B-Mods), Jeff Cutshaw (Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds) and Timothy Brown (Carson’s Corner NAPA Street Stocks).

Sheets, a frequent contender in the Modified division, was impressive in his first time behind the wheel of the bigger car. His biggest challenge, after opening nearly a half-lap lead, was weaving through lapped traffic. He did so without incident to finish nearly a half-lap in front of Chris Cox.

Cox, of Jefferson City, held off a fast-closing Larry Ferris of Nevada for third after Ferris charged from a 13th-starting position. Jon Binning of Warrensburg grabbed fourth with Browning’s Tommy Cordray in fifth.

Late Model points leader Aaron Marrant rallied to finish eighth after a poor heat race performance relegated him to a 20th-place starting position in the feature. Marrant earned both the Keyser Manufacturing ULMA Late Model Hard Charger Award – a $100 product certificate – and the Out-Pace Racing Products Features Class Hard Charger – a $100 product certificate and Out-Pace cap.

Jackson all the way: Lebanon’s Kris Jackson scored his third feature victory of the season, hanging on to beat Shawn Strong in the evening’s first main event.
Lucas Oil Speedway is located at Highways 83 and 54 in Wheatland, Missouri. A campground with shower and bathroom facilities is also available. With it’s entrance located just outside the pit gate this sprawling scenic camping facility will continue to enhance the racing experience at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks. Starting from outside of row one, Jackson grabbed command at the drop of the green and led all 20 laps. He did have to hold off Strong on a pair of re-starts over the final 10 laps, taking the checkered flag about three car lengths in front of the runner-up.

Jackson earned an additional $250 for the victory, in memory of Ron Jenkins and Charlie Dobson.

Season points leader J.C. Morton slipped to eighth in the early going from his second-row starting spot. But the Springfield driver rallied to finish third, ahead of Sparta’s Steve Muilenburg and fifth-place Kaeden Cornell of Willard.

Cutshaw breaks through: Reigning track champ and season points leader Jeff Cutshaw solidified his hold on the USRA Modified division with a dominant victory.

While it was the Bolivar driver’s third victory of the season, it had been two months since his last triumph. Cutshaw had three second places and two thirds in the previous five races – but left no doubt this time, after taking the lead on lap three.

Runner-up Steve Muilenburg of Sparta started on the pole and led early and wound up best of the rest. Chase Domer of Nevada finished third with Sedalia’s Terry Schultz in fourth.

Street Stocks: Timothy Brown of Stoutland ended his son Derek Brown’s four-race winning streak,  capturing the Street Stock feature to conclude the action.

Timothy Brown grabbed the lead from Derek Brown on lap seven on a pass coming down the front straightaway. He led the final 13 laps and celebrated his second feature win of the season.

Dale Eaton of St. Joseph got past Derek Brown in the closing laps to earn second. Derek Brown held off Darrin Crisler of Clever for third.

Steve Beach, going from 12th to seventh, earned the AR Bodies Street Stock Hard Charger, getting a $50 product certificate.

Up next: Racing action resumes next Saturday with Ozarks Food Harvest Food Drive Night Presented by KOLR Channel 10. Fans bringing four non-perishable food items will receive free admission.

The Carson’s Corner Street Stocks will be featured, running a special 25-lap feature for $500 to win. The ALPS Food Stores Late Models, Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds and Ozark Golf Cars B Mods also will be in action.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30.
