Trent Young Tops Summit Racing Equipment AMS Action at Ponderosa Speedway

Junction City, KY (July 23, 2016)- The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series would visit Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, KY on Saturday evening and Trent Young of Hopkinsville, KY would score his fourth series win of the season and maintain his spot at the top of the series points. The win would be worth $1,500 and would again come behind the wheel of the Dave Mitchell owned Snap-On Tools/Mitchell Tools and Motorsports/Ted Brown’s Quality Paint and Body/R&S Equipment/Emma’s Place/Young’s Well Service/Kissinger Red Angus sponsored #10Y Bandit Race Car, SPEC Race Engines powered mount.

Trent Young would take the lead at the start of the 30 lap, $1,500 to win main event and would receive pressure from Keith Smith in early going before Young would distance himself from Smith a bit. Meanwhile, Josh Harris and Matt Cooper would engage in a torrid battle for third. The third and final caution of the event would wave on lap 9 to close the field back together. Young would proceed to once again jump to the lead, while Harris would take second from Smith. Cooper would get by Smith three laps later as the field saw the halfway signal on lap 15. With Young driving off into the moonlight out front, Harris and Cooper would swap the second position back and forth over the final ten laps. Young would take the win, with Harris edging Cooper for second, with Smith and David Webb completing the top five.

The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the Ponderosa Speedway A-Main would be Mark Lamont, Peyton Harlow, Cameron Marlar, Travis Dickson, and Dennis Roberson. on Flanary, Wayne James, Stanley Donahoo, and Mark Lamont. The event would slowed by three caution periods.

In preliminary action, Trent Young was the Quick Car Racing Products top qualifier among 21 entries at 14.720 seconds. Summit Racing Equipment heat one went to Keith Smith, while Josh Harris scored the win in Fast Shafts heat two. Hypercoils heat three went to Trent Young, with Matt Cooper winning Frankland Racing Equipment heat four. There were no Out-Pace Racing Products B-Mains contested.

The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will take place on Friday July 29 at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL as the AMS All-Star Shootout that was rained out back on May 28 will be concluded as part of the track’s opening night of the Prairie Dirt Classic event. The second Out-Pace Race Products B-Main and the AMS All-Star Shootout A-Main is all that is left to be contested of the event.
