Racing has begun in the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway Motorsports Park. Another warm day and large crowd is on hand.

Top Fuel

Finals

Shawn Langdon edged Tony Schumacher by 17 thousands of a second at the finish line for the Top Fuel AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals championship.

Semi  Finals

Richie Crampton great weekend was ended by Shawn Langdon in another close battle.

 

Tony Schumacher edged JR Todd by a car length setting up all Team Schumacher final.

Schumacher is 17 – 10 against Todd in prior events.

 

Round Two

Tony Schumacher distancing his last week race disappointment and today beat his teammate Leah Prichett who lost an engine cylinders shortly after the race started.

JR Todd beat Pat Dakin.

Brittney Force spun tires allowing Richie Crampton easily stroll to another round victory at Gateway.

Doug Kalitta currently second in points was hoping to take advantage of top points leader Antron Brown’s first round loss but Kalitta blew a cylinder and Shawn Langdon went on for the victory.  Langdon is dragon slayer because he had beat Brown earlier in the day.

“Huge win,” said Langdon. “After Charlotte we put ourselves in hole and we are slowly digging ourselves out of it.”

 

Round One

Brittany Force was the first to advance to the next round after she ran past Clay Millican

“That how I want to start every Sunday,” said Force.

Tony Schumacher beat 84 year old, Chris Karameines to advance to advance to round of 8 drivers. Karameines a sentimental favorite, red-lighted ending his day much earlier that he had hoped.

Top Qualifier, Richie Crampton handled Kebin Kinsley.

Doug Kalitta had the highest speed of the weekend at 328.22  to beat Terry McMillan.

“Hopefully we can make something out of it today,” said Kalitta

Antron Brown streak of wins at Gateway came to end after Shawn Langdon upset him.

 

 

Funny Car

Finals

“Fast”Jack Beckman out lasted Tommy Johnson for the Midwest National Championship in Funny Car. Johnson had the lead at the start but slowed down shortly thereafter giving Beckman the relatively easy win.

This was Beckman’s 24th career win. He won his first win against Tommy Johnson.

Semi  Finals

Jack Beckman led from start of finish to knock out season countdown points leader Ron Capps.

Tommy Johnson the 8th seed Funny Car out distanced Tommy Wilkerson to make it the finals.

Round Two

Tommy Johnson Jr. who made it to the finals last week, once again continues to march towards the finals again after beating Number 1 qualifier Robert Hight.

John Force still manages to smile and recognize fans after a second round loss.

Matt Hagen left the starting line first but Tim Wilkerson was able to make it up even as his car slid all over the track to the finish line.

Like the race right before, Courtney Force got the quick lead but Ron Capps ran a 3.97 ET to take the victory.

Jack Beckman beat John Force by the closet margin with a one thousandth of a victory.

All John Force cars were eliminated in this round after they all won in the first round.

 

Round One

Top Qualifier Robert Hight had no problems advancing his AAA Insurance car into the next round after blowing away John Hale.

“Great start,” said Hight. “Got be aggressive and 3.90 is great.”

Tim Wilkerson moved to the next round.

Jack Beckman had a close run Dale Creasy Jr. but was able to squeeze out a win.

Ron Capps won by default when John Bojec did not make the starting line.

Tim Wilkerson  put on a good side-by-side race with Brian Stewart but Wilkerson won to keep his 700 plus Springfield, Ill. fans happy.

“Way to many people on hand to make a mistake,” said Wilkerson.

Matt Hagen blew away Cruz Pedregon.

Chad Head took the early lead but Courtney Force out paced him for the victory.

John Force also had side-by-side battle Del Worsham all the way to finish line, with Force winning by a nose. All John Force cars made it to the next round.

The always tight 8 seed vs 9 seed… Tommy Johnson Jr. out lasted Alexis DeJoria to close out the first round.

 

Pro Stock

Finals

Alex Laughlin picked up first Pro Stock win in his first try in the finals. For Bo Butner it is the sixth time he has been to the finals without a victory. Laughlin won at the start with .009  reaction to .037  for Butner.

Semi  Finals

Bo Butner continued his exciting winning weekend with a photo finish over Jason Line.

Alex Laughlin upset top qualifier Shane Gray in another tight finish. His win guaranteed there will be first time winner in Pro Stock between Butner and Laughlin.

Round Two

Jason Line beats teammate Greg Anderson to move to the next round.

Alex Laughlin won by the length of his race car hood to make it to the next round.

Bo Butner beat Chris MaGaha.

Top qualifier Shane Gray continues his weekend success beating Drew Skillman.

Summit teammates and points leaders Jason Line and Greg Anderson faced off in monumental battle. And it was Summit Blue team and points leader Jason Lane at the end.

Round One

Drew Skillman beat Allen Johnson to move the next round.

Chris McGaha edged out Jeg Coughlin Jr.

Erica Enders-Stevens troubles continued as she lost to Jason Line even after Enders-Stevens had a great reaction time start. The problem was Line had a better start.

Greg Anderson beat Alan Prusiensky. The bad news is he has to face on Jason Line who is first in points.

“We’ll give it all we got,” said Anderson lamenting his next round race.

Number 1 qualifier Shane Gray dominated David River to easily move on.

Bo Butner beat Mark Hogan even though Hogan at the jump at the start of the race.

Vincent Nobile handled Deric Kramer to close out

No upsets this round. All top seeds moved on.

 

Pro Stock Motorcyle

Finals

Angelle Sampey red lighted at the start line giving Jerry Savoie his 5th career win and first win since Dalla 2015

Semi  Finals

 

Jerry Savoie had a 1/10 of second victory over Cory Reed.

In the other semi final, Angelle Sampey ended Chip Ellis streak of Sunday wins.

So it will be an all Louisiana resident final

Round Two

Jerry Savoie beat Angie Smith.

Chip Ellis beats Andrew Hines for the second week in row and is heading to the semi rounds.

Cory Reed #8 qualifier upset top qualifier Eddie Krawiec.

Hector Arana Sr had a great start at the line but it was not enough as Angela Sampey was there at the end.

Round One

Jerry Savoie and Steve Johnson both had nearly perfect reaction starts but Savoie won.

Hector Arana Sr. and Karen Stoffer followed the lead of the first race also had identical reaction times

Chip Ellis, surprise winner last week, continued his hot streak beating Jim Underdahl.

Angella Sampey beat Angie Smith who she considers a friend.

“I hate racing against friends,” said Sampey.

Alen Hines won on a holeshot over Hector Arana Jr.
