West Burlington, IA (Saturday, May 13, 2017) – Saturday, May 13th was a beautiful night for racing at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, as it was Victory Lane Suspensions night at the races. At the end of the evening two drivers won back-to-back features at the track, while four picked up their first wins of the season and another won his second of the season at the track.

The fans were treated to an extra feature race on the night, as the make-up Sonny’s Markey 4 Cylinder feature from May 6th was completed first from lap 4. Brandon Lambert would inherit the lead when race leader Austen Becerra and second place runner Jake Dietrich didn’t return. Lambert held the lead on the restart, with Larry Miller and James Roose close behind. The action was slowed on lap 7 when Ron Kibbe stopped in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Lambert jumped back out front, with Kimberly Abbott, who recovered from the spin on the start of the race, taking over second. Abbott tried to work under Lambert over the final 4 laps, but Lambert was able to hold her off to claim his first win of the season at the track. Abbott was 2nd, Roose was 3rd, Miller was 4th, with Jerrod Nichols recovering from the first lap spin to come back up to finish in 5th.

Up next was the 15 lap Casebine Credit Union IMCA SportMod feature, with Randy LaMar and Tom Lathrop leading the field to green. Lathrop took advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Jacob Whittington and Austen Becerra, who started 7th. Becerra then took over the runner up spot on lap 2, and then went to work on Lathrop for the lead. The action was slowed for the first time on lap 4, when John Oliver Jr., who was running 3rd, spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Dustin Ravelin spun in turn 4 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Becerra slipped under Lathrop to grab the top spot away. Two laps later, lap 7, Shawn Slaughter spun in turn 2 and collected Whittington to bring out the final caution of the race. Becerra once again jumped back out front on the restart, with Sean Wyett, who started 6th, and Kyle Hill, who started 9th, close behind. On this night there was no catching Becerra, as he pulled away to pick up his second win in a row at 34 Raceway. Wyett was 2nd, Hill was 3rd, Oliver Jr. recovered from his lap 4 spin to come back up to finish 4th, with Scott Williams coming home in 5th.

Damien Getchell and Colton Fisher led the field to green in the 20 lap WT Gabeline & Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature, with Fisher jumping out front on lap 1 over Getchell and Andy Krieger. Getchell would slip under Fisher on lap 2 to take over the top spot, and then was slowed on lap 4 when Rob Pohren spun in turn 3 to bring out the caution. On the restart Fisher used the middle groove of the track to grab the lead back, with Jake Glasgow following into second. On lap 7 Glasgow slipped under Fisher to take the lead away, as Dave Getchell, who started 9th, followed him into second. One lap later, lap 8, Dave Getchell made the move under Glasgow to take over the top spot. Dave Getchell then started to pull away from the field, when the second and final caution of the race appeared on lap 16. This time Wyatt Wilkerson would slow to a stop down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. Dave Getchell once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Glasgow and Krieger close behind. Dave Getchell then led the final 4 laps to claim his first win of the season at the track. Glasgow was 2nd, Krieger was 3rd, Shane Quam finished 4th after starting in 11th, with Jarrod Schneiderman coming from 10th to finish in 5th.

The 20 lap Pepsi IMCA Stock Car feature was up next, with Kevin Weak and Jason Cook, being moved to the outside of the front row when Derek Schwandt elected to go to the back, leading the field to green. Just as the green flag waved the caution light would come on, as Weak spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Cook moved out front to lead lap 1 over Ray Raker and Jake Wenig. John Oliver Jr., who started 10th, used the top of the track to move into second on lap 3, and then went to work on Cook for the lead. The battle up front became a three car battle on lap 7, when Tom Bowling Jr., who started 9th, moved into third. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 11 Oliver Jr. used the momentum off the top of the track to grab the top spot away from Cook. Cook then had to fight off Bowling Jr. for the runner up spot, as the two stayed close to Oliver Jr. Coming off turn 4 to get the checkered flag Cook looked under Oliver Jr. for the lead, while Bowling Jr. looked under Cook for second. But Oliver Jr. was able to edge out Cook to pick up his second win of the season at 34 Raceway. Cook held on for 2nd, Bowling Jr. settled for 3rd, Raker was 4th, with Chad Krogmeier finishing 5th.

Austin Bowling and Scott Sappington Jr. made up the front row for the 12 lap Sunoco Fuel Mod Lite feature, with Sappington Jr. jumping out front to lead lap 1 over Devon Rouse and Jason Masengarb, who started 5th. Masengarb would use the bottom of the track to slip under Sappington Jr. on lap 2 to take over the top spot. The fast pace Masengarb was setting allowed him to pull away from the field, as the battle was heating up for second. Without a caution there was no catching Masengarb, who cruised to his second win in a row at the track. R.J. Gonzalez, who started 8th, took second on the last lap, Rouse was 3rd, Erin Turner was 4th, with Sappington Jr. holding on for 5th.

Up next was the 20 lap Victory Lane Suspensions IMCA Modified feature, with Blake Woodruff and Mitch Boles leading the field to green. Woodruff took advantage of his starting spot to lead lap 1 over Dustin Smith and Dugan Thye. The action up front was slowed for the first time on lap 3, when Boles spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Brandon Rothzen, who started 9th and was running 3rd, spun in turn 3 from contact from Smith to bring the caution light back on. The following restart saw Dennis LaVeine, who started 8th, slipping under Woodruff to take the top spot away. After the completion of lap 4 another caution appeared, as Chadwick Giberson spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Darrow Lillie spun in turn 1 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw LaVeine move back out front, with Woodruff and Bobby Six, who started 7th, close behind. Woodruff used the momentum off the top of the track coming out of turn 4 to grab the lead away from LaVeine on lap 6. Then one lap later, lap 7, the action was slowed for debris down the front stretch. The caution light would come back on on the restart, as Creston Williams spun in turn 1.

On the following restart Woodruff moved back out front, with LaVeine and Six close behind. With Woodruff working to hold off LaVeine, Rothzen was working his way back to the front after the spin on lap 3. The action was slowed on lap 10, when debris in turn 1 brought out the yellow. Once again Woodruff grabbed the lead on the restart, with LaVeine and Bill Roberts Jr. recovering from changing a flat tire on the lap 3 caution to move into third. The action was slowed for the final time on lap 13, when Boles spun in turn 2 to bring out his second solo caution to end his night. On the restart Woodurff moved back out front, with LaVeine and Rothzen following. Woodruff the went on to lead the final 7 laps to pick up his first win of the season at 34 Raceway. LaVeine was 2nd, Roberts Jr. edged out Rothzen for 3rd, with Six coming home in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 12 lap Sonny’s Market 4 Cylinders, with Randy Magnuson and Ron Kibbe on the front row. Kibbe took advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Magnuson and Jerrod Nichols. Just after the completion of lap 1 the first caution came out, as Magnuson spun in front of the field in turn 3 and collected Brandon Lambert, James Roose and Cody VanDusen to bring out the yellow. On the restart Kibbe jumped back out front, with Kimberly Abbott, who started 8th, and Nichols following. Abbott then tried to work under Kibbe over the next 4 laps, when the action was slowed. Lisa Benningfield slowed to a stop down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. Kibbe again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Abbott and Nichols close behind. Abbott again tried to work under Kibbe over the final laps, but Kibbe was able to hold her off to claim his first win of the season at the track. Abbott settled for 2nd, Nichols was 3rd, Larry Miller was 4th, with David Prim finishing 5th.
