Macon SpeedwayBig Ten Super Late Models To Make Their First 2017 Visit

(Macon, IL) After a wild Saturday night of racing, car crushing by the Raminator Monster Truck, 40+ bikes given away to kids, and more, Macon Speedway is now set for a big finish to the holiday weekend with a Memorial Day special.  Monday, May 29 will feature six divisions of racing, including the Miller Lite Twin 50’s for the Big Ten UMP Super Late Models as well as the Billingsley Elite Wash UMP Modifieds featuring NASCAR’s Kenny Wallace and Ken Schrader.

With Macon Speedway being one of only a few tracks in the region racing on Monday, many out of towners will pay a visit to garner important UMP points and race at the high banked, 1/5-mile oval.  On tap will be the Midwest Big Ten UMP Super Late Models, racing a 50-lap event, paying $1,500 to the winner.  It will mark the first visit for the division at the track in 2017.

The Midwest Big Ten Super Late Model class, has had two races so far this season with solid fields at both.  At the Quincy Raceway opener on May 7, talented St. Charles, MO driver, Gordy Gundaker, claimed the victory over a field of 20+.  At the second event on May 12 at Belle-Clair Speedway, Michael Kloos, of Trenton, IL took the victory.  Kloos, with finishes of second and first, currently leads the Big Ten standings.  Lincoln Speedway and Highland Speedway events scheduled for last weekend were canceled due to rain.  No reschedule dates have been announced at this point.

The other 50-lap event will feature the Billingsley Elite Wash UMP Modifieds.  So far this season, a father-son duo from Mason City, IL have been solid at the top of the standings and that continued Saturday night.  Brian Lynn, a many time champion from Lincoln Speedway, leads the points by just two over his son Austin.  Brian brought home his second win of the season on Saturday night, while Austin had a solid top five.  2017 track champion, Curt Rhodes, has had some bad luck to this point in the season but is not too far behind in third with Danny Smith and Alan Crowder fourth and fifth.

The Modified class is expected to have a nice field of challengers for the regulars as former NASCAR drivers, Ken Schrader of Fenton, MO, and Kenny Wallace, from St. Louis, MO, will both be joining the field for Monday’s event.  It will be their first visits to the track this season.  Schrader is coming off of a top ten finish in his first start at the Little 500 at Anderson Speedway, while Wallace has had NASCAR TV duties all weekend.

Monday will also mark the first non-sanction race of the season for the 600cc winged micros of the Beach House Micro class.  A field in upwards of 30 cars was on hand for the POWRi sanctioned event a couple weeks ago.  Monday’s event will be a nice tune-up for next weekend’s POWRi Illinois Midget/Micro week.

Rounding out the list of entertainment for Monday will be the UMP B-Mod class which has been consistently the best class at Macon this year, Street Stocks, and Hornets.
