Donnellson, IA (Friday, August 4, 2017) – Night two of “Summerfest” presented by Outdoor Power Inc., chem GRO, and Fat Jimmy’s Catering was held on Friday, August 4th at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa. Beautiful weather on a late summer night night greeted the driver’s and the nice crowd on hand. At the end of the night five drivers won their multiple wins, and one other scored their first of the season at the track.

First feature to take to the track was the 15 lap Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compacts, with Brandon Reu and Kenny Smith drawing the front row. But it was fourth place starter Barry Taft who wedged out Reu at the line by inches to grab the lead on lap 1. Reu, who was working the top of the track, grabbed the top spot away from Taft on lap 2. Taft then followed in Reu’s tire track, while Josh Barnes, who arrived at the track just in time to tag the tail of the feature, was working his was towards the front. On lap 10, Barnes slipped into third and then went to work on the lead duo. But Reu was able to hold on in a caution free race to claim his second win of the season at the track. Taft held on for 2nd, Barnes was 3rd, Kimberly Abbott was 4th, with Travis DeMint coming home in 5th.

Up next was the 30 lap Legend Car feature, with Jeremy Meyer and Brock Haines leading the field to green. Meyer used his front row start to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Haines and Cody Apfelbeck, who started 6th. Just after lap 1 was scored complete the red flag came out, as five wide action going into turn 1 resulted in Nelson Stewart, who was running third, and Jason Utter, who started 11th and was up to 5th, rolling. Both drivers climbed from their cars okay. On the restart Drew Papke, who started 8th, Meyer and Haines raced third wide for the lead, with Papke grabbing the top spot. On lap 5 Tim Brockhouse, who started 7th, used the top of the track to take the lead away from Papke, only to have Papke come back on the bottom to lead lap 6. One lap later, lap 7, the lead went three wide off four, with Rick Harris, who started 12th, slipping under Papke and Brockhouse to grab the top spot. Brockhouse worked the bottom of the track to grab the lead back on lap 8. While Brockhouse set the pace out front, Papke worked the top of the track to close in on Papke for the lead. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 18, Papke would use the momentum to take the top spot. The final caution of the race slowed the action on lap 19, as Meyer lost an engine in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Papke moved back out front, with Brockhouse and Heskett, who came from the rear after have a flat on the lap 1 red, close behind. Brockhouse would follow in Papke’s tire tracks over the final laps, until coming to the white flag. Brockhouse looked under Papke, but Papke was able to hold him off at the line to pick up the win. Brockhouse was 2nd, Heskett was 3rd, Harris was 4th, with Mike Mueller finishing 5th after starting in 9th.

Jeremy Pundt and John Oliver Jr. led the field to green in the Donnellson Tire and Service IMCA Stock Car feature, with Pundt edging out Oliver Jr. and Jeff Mueller to lead lap 1. The lead for Pundt only lasted for 1 lap, as Oliver Jr. used the momentum off the top of the track to take over the top spot on lap 2. Only 1 caution slowed the action, and that would happen on lap 6 when Chase Exline spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Oliver Jr. moved back out front, with Mueller over taking Pundt for second. Mueller would pressure Oliver Jr. over the final laps, but Oliver Jr. was able to hold him off to claim his fifth win of the season at the Pepsi Lee County Speedway. Mueller settled for 2nd, David Brandies started 8th and finished 3rd, Jason See was 4th, with Pundt finishing in 5th.

The 25 lap Budweiser IMCA Modified feature was up next, with Dakota Simmons and Ryan Cook drawing the front row for the event. Simmons took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Jeff Waterman and Cook. Cook used the top of the track to take over the top spot from Simmons on lap 2. The first caution of the race appeared on lap 3, as Jarrett Brown got into the guardrail in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Waterman, Cayden Carter, who started 6th, and Dennis LaVeine all slipped past Cook. A second and final caution slowed the action on lap 7, as Colton Prevo spun in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. Waterman jumped back out front on the restart, with LaVeine and Carter battling for the runner up spot. Carter would over take LaVeine for second on lap 9, with Michael Long, who started 9th, moving into third on lap 10. Both Carter and Long followed in Waterman’s tire track around the top of the track, until they entered lapped traffic on lap 20. Carter tried to use the lapped traffic to his advantage, as he slid up in front of Waterman on lap 23, only to have Waterman slip back under him to keep the lead. Waterman then held off Carter on the final lap to score his fifth win of the season at the track. Carter was 2nd, Long was 3rd, Chris Zogg started 10th and finished 4th, with LaVeine rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 20 lap Shottenkirk Parts Express IMCA SportMod feature, with Daniel Fellows and Brandon Lennox leading the field to green. Lennox took advantage of his starting spot to move out front on lap 1 over Brandon Dale, who started 5th, and John Oliver Jr. Just after lap 1 was scored complete the first caution came out, as Logan Anderson, who was running 6th, spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Lennox jumped back out front, with Jim Gillenwater, who started 7th, taking over second. One lap later, lap 4, another caution came out, as Rance Powell slowed in turn 4 with troubles to bring out the yellow. Lennox once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Gillenwater and Oliver Jr. close behind. While Lennox worked to hold off Gillenwater and Oliver Jr., Tony Dunker, who started 18th, was working his way to the front. The action up front was slowed for the third time on lap 18, as Fellows spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Dale spun in turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Blaine Webster spin in turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. On the next restart Lennox jumped back out front, with Dunker going three wide through the middle to slip into second. Coming off turn 4 to get the checkered flag Dunker went to the top of the track and tried to use the momentum to grab the win. But Lennox was able to hold him off by half a car at the line for the win, which was his fourth of the season at the track. Dunker was 2nd, Gillenwater was 3rd, Carter VanDenBerg started 8th and finished 4th, with Brayton Carter coming from 13th to finish in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 25 lap Steffes UMP Pro Late Models, with Chris Richard and Mark Burgtorf, who was driving Clint Kirkham’s #28, making up the front row. Burgtorf used his front row starting spot to move out front on lap 1 over Richard and Todd Frank. While Burgtorf set the pace out front, Tommy Elston, who started 5th, used the bottom of the track to work into second on lap 8. On lap 13 Sam Halstead, who started 8th, joined the lead duo of Burgtorf and Elston. Burgtorf, who was working the top, Elston the middle, and Halstead the bottom, raced the final 5 laps three wide for the lead. Then coming off turn four to get the checkered, Halstead was able to slip under Burgtorf to pick up the win by inches. Burgtorf was a close 2nd, Elston was 3rd, Denny Woodworth finished 4th after starting in 7th, with Todd Frank finishing in 5th.
