I just spoke with Fairbury American Legion Speedway Promoter Matt Curl and one of the most anticipated opening nights for a Weekly Racing Program I can ever remember kicks off this Saturday night. Matt said all systems are GO and they are racing and the FALS Cup begins tomorrow night.
The pits and track are in great shape as of Friday morning, everyone is ready and ready to race.
Fairbury made a lot of noise the beginning of the year by announcing the weekly purses will pay the UMP Super Late Models $2500 to win and $300 to start, if that was not enough to get people talking Fairbury also announced the UMP Modifieds will pay $1500 to win with $175 to start the feature.
Hot Laps are set for 5:45 with racing starting at 7 pm – Fairbury American Legion Speedway.
General Admission is $10 and pit passes are $25
The talent pool at Fairbury should be stout, Brian Shirley, Kevin Weaver, Jason Feger, Mike Spatola, Derek Chandler, McKay Wenger, and Kent Robinson to name a few. I expect to see over 25 late models and the mods you go McKinney, Ledford, and who knows maybe Mike Harrison drops in.
Below are the STLRacing.com Top 25 Dirt Late Model Rankings as we enter the first week of May. The Highlight of last week was again the rain. The Lucas events at Granite City and Macon will be made up in July. Kevin Gundaker announced he will be having back to back Lucas Oil events paying $12,000 to win each night. The dates are July 11-12 for Tri-City Speedway. The Macon event will be run the week of the Prairie Dirt Classic at Fairbury. Macon date is Tuesday July 23rd and will be 100 laps on the high banked 1/5 mile.
Tim McCreadie won his first race of the year last weekend. Tim made his first appearance in the Rumley #6 at Atomic Speedway located in Waverly, Ohio last Sunday. The event paid $10,000 to win and Tim won from the 10th row.
The Lucas Series has already postponed the event scheduled for this weekend at Tazewell and Florence. Those races wil be made up the last week of June. The World of Outlaws are back in action this weekend starting tonight at Cherokee Speedway located in South Carolina, and Saturday at Lavonia Speedway in Georgia.
On a serious note thoughts and prayers go out to GRT Race Car’s Founder Joe Garrison who passed away this week after a tough battle with cancer. Joe was the founder of GRT and was a true pioneer of the sport. He paved the way and careers of drivers Bill Frye and Wendell Wallace to name a few. Joe was only 60 years of age. He will be missed !!
