Donnellson, IA (Friday, June 3, 2022) – Mother nature hasn’t been too kind to the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa so far in the 2022 racing season, as Friday night’s action was only the second points race of the season. With the cancellation of last week’s events, Midwest Performance & Power helped to bring back the Sprint Invaders to join our five weekly classes. After the final checkered flag fell two driver’s earned their first wins of the season, while the other three became repeat winners.

The first feature to take to the track on this night was the 18 lap Roberts Tire Center IMCA Northern SportMods. Brandon Lambert and Bob Cowman inherited the front row for the start, when Trayton Buckallew elected to go to the rear and Bobby Six was scratched. Lambert took advantage of his move to the front row by jumping out into the lead on lap 1 over Matt Tucker and Brayton Carter, who started 7th. The lead for Lambert lasted for three laps, as Carter slipped past him on lap 4 to take over the top spot. Then just after the lap was scored complete, the caution would appear for debris in turn 2. On the restart Carter jumped back out front, with Reed Wolfmeyer, who started 8th, edging out Lambert for the runner up spot. Wolfmeyer tried to keep pace with Carter over the next few laps, when another caution appeared on lap 8. This time Buckallew would spin in turn 1 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Adam Birck got sideways in turn 2 to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Carter move back out front, with Wolfmeyer and Lambert close behind. Just when it looked like Carter would pull away for an easy win the final caution of the race appeared on lap 15, as John Oliver Jr. spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. Carter jumped back out front on the restart and held on for his second win in a row at the track. Wolfmeyer was 2nd, Birck recovered from the lap 8 caution to come back up to finish 3rd, Tucker was 4th, with Lambert rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 18 lap Sonny’s Super Market IMCA Modifieds, with Jardin Fuller and Jesse Belez leading the field to green. Jardin Fuller grabbed the lead on lap 1 over son Jadin and Austen Becerra, and then held it until lap 7 when Becerra slipped by for the top spot. Becerra then survived two other cautions and a red flag stoppage to score his second win of the season at the Lee County Speedway. Jardin Fuller was 2nd, Mark Burgtorf came from 8th to finish 3rd, Mitch Boles was 4th, with Dennis LaVeine coming from the rear to complete the top 5.

Josh Schneiderman and Cody Wehrle led the field to green in the 25 lap Sprint Invaders feature, with Schneiderman using his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 over Wehrle and Chris Martin. Schneiderman and Wehrle would exchange slide jobs over the next 8 laps, with Wehrle credited with leading laps 4 thru 9. The action was slowed only one time and that was after lap 9 was scored complete, as Martin slowed off turn 4 with a flat tire to bring out the yellow. On the restart Wehrle jumped back out front, with Schneiderman and Bret Tripplett close behind. Schneiderman tried to work under Wehrle over the next 4 laps, when he was finally able to edge out front on lap 15. Werhrle then tried to keep pace with Schneiderman through heavy lapped traffic. But Scjneiderman was able to hold him off to pick up the win. Chase Randall came from 13th to finish 3rd, Terry McCarl passed 12 cars from his 16th place starting spot to finish 4th, with Riley Goodno finishing 5th.

Up next was the 20 lap Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Late Models, with Darin Weisinger Jr. and Tommy Elston drawing the front row. Elston took advantage of his draw to grab the lead on lap 1 over Weisinger Jr. and Jeremy Pundt. While Weisinger Jr. tried to keep pace with Elston, Sam Halstead, who started 8th, worked his way into third on lap 4. Just a few laps later he would join Weisinger Jr. in the battle to get the lead away from Elston. But Elston didn’t make any mistakes over the final half of the race, as he went on to score his first win of the season at the track. Weisinger Jr. was 2nd, Halstead was 3rd, Dalton Simonsen was 4th, with Ray Raker coming home in 5th

Justin Stevenson and Barry Taft led the field to green in the 15 lap AVIS Car Rental IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Stevenson jumping out into the lead on lap 1 over Taft and Kimberly Abbott. Taft tried everything to get around Stevenson for the top spot over the next 3 laps, but Stevenson was able to hold him off. That was until lap 5, when Taft was able to get by for the lead. Disaster would strike Stevenson on lap 10, as something broke in the rear end in turn 3, which caused him to get upside down to bring out the red. He climbed from the car a little shaken. On the restart Taft moved back out front, but had Chevy Barnes, Josh Barnes, Brandon Reu, and Kimberly Abbott glued to his back bumper. When father and son, Josh and Chevy Barnes, got to racing hard for the runner up spot, this allowed Reu to slip under both of them to move into that position. Then coming to the white flag Reu went to work on Taft for the lead. Taft would drift high in turn 3, which allowed Reu to shoot under him off turn 4 to collect his second win in a row at the track. Chevy Barnes was 3rd, Abbott got by Josh Barnes at the line to finish 4th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 18 lap Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Cars, with Louis Lynch and Chris Wibbell making up the front row. But it was third place starter Chad Krogmeier who shot out into the lead on lap 1 over fifth place starter Abe Huls, and Lynch. Krogmeier then held the top spot until lap 4, when Huls was able to get under him for the lead. Huls then held the lead over the final 14 laps to claim his first win of the season at the Lee County Speedway. Krogmeier was 2nd, Jeremy Pundt was 3rd, David Brandies was 4th, with Jason See coming home in 5th.
