Donnellson, IA (Friday, August 19, 2022) – A lot of money was up for grabs at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa on Friday, August 19th, as it was B&B Propane IMCA Modified “Drive For 5” Finale, presented by Kohlmorgan Hauling, Golden Eagle Distributing Co – Budweiser dealer, Mike Campbell’s Body Shop & Towing, Donnellson Tire & Service, Hinkle Auto Sales, and JandJ Ag Auto & Truck. And the Discount Tire & Services IMCA Northern SportMod “Drive For 3” Finale, presented by TONUP Inc., Xpert Automotive & Sales, and Conrad Trucking Inc.. Mother nature tried before and during the night to put a damper on the show. But the crew never gave up, and was able to get the night completed.

First up was the 15 lap AVIS Car Rental IMCA Sport Compact feature, with Justin Stevenson and Luke Fraise leading the field to green. But it was third place starter Chandler Fullenkamp who grabbed the lead on lap 1 over Fraise and Kimberly Abbott. Chandler Fullenkamp then held the top spot until lap 4, when Brandon Reu, who started 6th, took over the top spot. Even through lapped traffic Reu wasn’t able to get away from Chandler Fullenkamp. And coming off turn 4 to get the checkered flag, Chandler Fullenkamp went low to challenge Reu for the win. But Reu held him off by a fender to claim his third win of the season at the track, worth $500 thanks to Kohlmorgan Hauling. Chuck Fullenkamp came from 8th to finish in 3rd, Abbott was 4th, with Chevy Barnes rounding out the top 5.

Up next was the 20 lap Iowa Corn Growers Association IMCA Late Model feature, with Ed Hollenbeck and Sam Halstead making up the front row. Hollenbeck jumped out into the lead on lap 1 over Dennis Woodworth and Halstead. But disaster struck Hollenbeck in turn 1 after the completion of lap 1, as he clipped a tire and folded the nose under to bring out the caution. On the restart Woodworth moved out front, and was slowed after lap 2 for debris in turn 2. Woodworth once again grabbed the lead on the restart, with eighth place starter Jeff Guengerich battling Jeremy Pundt for the runner up spot. Woodworth would start to pull away from the battle behind him, when the third and final caution of the race appeared on lap 7. This time newcomer Dakota Job spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Woodworth jumped back out front, with Guengerich and Pundt continuing their battle for second.  With the battle going on behind him, this allowed Woodworth to pull away to claim his first win of the season at the Lee County Speedway. Guengerich won the battle for 2nd, Tommy Elston finished 3rd after starting in 10th, Pundt was 4th, with CJ Horn coming home 5th after starting in 9th.

Austin Schrage and Dakota Girard gained the most passing points in their dual heat races to earn the front for the 40 lap Discount Tire & Services IMCA Northern SportMod “Drive For 3” Finale feature. The driver’s had troubles getting the first 5 laps put into the record books, as four cautions in those first five laps slowed the action. Girard paced the field out front, while Adam Birck, Logan Anderson, and Brayton Carter, who started 11th, stayed glued to his back bumper. Anderson and Girard would exchange sliders from lap 8 to 12 for the top spot, when Anderson finally took command of the lead on lap 13. Heavy lapped traffic on lap 15 set up a great battle for the top spot, until the caution on lap 19 slowed the action. This would also be the halfway break.

After the ten minute time limit to change anything on their cars, except tires, the field was set to go back to green flag racing. Anderson moved back out front, with Girard and Birck getting by Carter for second and third. Carter gained the runner up spot back on lap 23, and then went to work on Anderson for the lead. The duo entered lapped traffic on lap 30, and two laps later Carter was able to clear Anderson for the top spot. Anderson tried to challenge Carter over the next 4 laps, when Carter made a bold move coming out of turn 4 to clear two lap cars on lap 37. This would allow him to drive away for his sixth win of the season at the track. The win was worth $3,500, as Kohlmorgan Hauling put up an extra $500 to the winner. Anderson was 2nd, Tyler Heckart battled back from the rear after losing his fuel cap on the start to finish in 3rd, John Oliver Jr. charged from 14th to finish in 10th, with Birck completing the top 5.

Cayden Carter and Andy Eckrich earned the most passing points in their dual heat races to lead the field to green in the 50 lap B&B Propane IMCA Modified Photo Daddy 50 “Drive For 5” Finale feature. Carter took advantage of his starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 over Austen Becerra and Eckrich. Becerra would follow in Carter’s tire tracks, and even tried to challenge him for the lead over the next several laps. The duo would enter lap traffic on lap 14, which Becerra used to take the top spot away from Carter on lap 15. The action was slowed for the first time on lap 17, as debris in turn 4 brought out the yellow. On the restart Carter slid past Becerra to gain the lead back. Becerra would chase Carter to the halfway break on lap 25.

When the ten minute time limit horn sounded, it was time to go back to green. On the restart Carter jumped back out front, with Becerra and Eckrich following. Carter looked like he was going to pull away, when he entered lapped traffic on lap 36. As he struggled to get by those lapped cars, this allowed Becerra to close in on him quickly. On lap 39 Becerra slid past Carter to take over the top spot. Becerra then pulled away to pick up his sixth win of the season at the Lee County Speedway. The win for Becerra was worth $5,000. Carter settled for 2nd, Eckrich was 3rd, Drew Janssen came from 7th to finish 4th, with Bakersfield, California racer Troy Morris III coming home in 5th after starting in 13th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 18 lap Donnellson Tire & Service IMCA Stock Car feature, with Chris Wibbell and Tyler Moore leading the field to green. Wibbell would grab the lead on lap 1 over Chad Krogmeier and Jason Cook, as the rest of the field raced three and four wide behind them. The action was slowed on lap 7 when Peter Stodgel stopped on the back stretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Nathen Ballard, who started 8th, slipped by Wibbell to take over the top spot. Then just after the lap was scored complete, David Brandies slowed in turn 2 with a left front flat to bring out the yellow. Ballard moved back out front on the restart, with Krogmeier, John Oliver Jr., Wibbell, and Brayton Carter, who was driving Dustin Vis’ #20, all glued to his back bumper. Krogmeier would challenge Ballard for the lead over the last few laps. But Ballard was able to hold him off for his first win of the season at the track, which was $1,000 thanks to Kohlmorgan Hauling. Carter finished 3rd, Oliver Jr. was 4th, with Corey Strothman finishing 5th after starting in 10th.
